1p on fuel

If 1p a litre makes that much of a difference then maybe you got the wrong car?

Im hoping that if prices keep going up then it will start to reduce the amount of traffic on the roads, might take a while though :D

You own a petrol station ?

Haha I wish!

I mainly drive for pleasure so from a purely selfish point of view higher prices means less traffic so more enjoyable driving for me.

Bit shitty for those that have to drive for work I admit

i agree all this anger at the oil companies should not be where its directed - I recently went over to florida hired a V6 300HP mustang and did 1400 miles in total filled the tank up for average $42 each time which is about £25 that same tank to fill the z4 is £73 here and i think the mustangs take would be a little larger .... i would happily buy a second hand M6 V10 if i lived over there (no doubt the cost of the M6 over there would mess this idea up) but still..... its our government that needs sorting out not the oil companies.

1p on fuel is only half the issue, how do the garages have the ability to put 0.9p on the price when there is no legal tender that equates to 0.9p. I put 2 litres in on Sunday at my local garage at 134.9/ltr so the total should have been £269.8 yet low and behold they charged me £2.70....An over charge of 0.2p so I asked for the difference. Of course they couldn't give it me so I asked to see the manager. By this time there was a bit of a queue forming and a few expletives aimed at me too. However, when I said why I'd question it and that I fill up on average three times a week and over a year they would owe me nearly a tank full, the queue started to agree with little stance. In the end the manager rounded it down to £2.69....Victory

If we assume there are over 35million cars in the UK and an average of each car uses £50 of fuel a week then there is quite a sum of money owed to Joe Public...

Any thoughts or is this just custom and practice, another phrase for rip off.. :x

If I was the store manager, I'd have told you to claim the money lost back off your maths teacher.

I'm sure you already know, but the price is not rounded up on every litre independently, but on the final price, and they round down to the nearest penny when it's below 0.5p. So some days you win, some days you lose.

So whether you put 1 litre or 55 litres in the tank at each fill, the rounding up each time can only be +/- 0.5p.

If you were really unlucky and had your bill rounded UP every time you filled up a FULL tank then you'd overcharged by 78p (i.e. 3 fills x 52 weeks x 0.5p = £0.78) - and have a fuel filter full of crud from running your tank empty every other day.

Similarly if you were very lucky and your bill was rounded DOWN each fill the you'd be up 78p.

The other bit you've also conveniently forgotten in your calculations is that the pump usually displays/measures in 1/10th of a litre, so you may easily have slightly more fuel than you think, which would more than account for the 'stolen' 0.1p, as 1/100th of a litre would be 0.13p.

i'm sad, i calculated it, whilst owning my golf for 6 months i am 8p down, not worth anybodies argument

Wow, it must be cool having a wardrobe full of anoracks.

Probably as cool as holding up loads of people in the queue behind you over .2 of a penny :o

You obviously have too much time on your hands if you can spend 2 0r 3 minutes haggling like that. Or more likely Im sure I read that somewhere else anyway once.

You're missing the point it's the "Feel good factor". Everyone knows that 0.2p means nothing but we're shafted so many times and can do nothing about it that it does you good to make a stand once in a while. Good on you.

Alternatively I can spend the time I dont waste arguing over .2p doing something I enjoy more? Whats the point arguing over it, you just get annoyed over something thats not worth the time?

There's no room in my wardrobe for anoraks, as the gimp suits need hanging up to let all the bodily fluids drain out
