Been doing a bit of searching online and can get a set of Michelin PS4S for the same price as a set of Dunlop Sportmax 2’s , this is supplied and fitted for just over £500.

This is 235/35/19 and 255/35/19

My head is saying go for the Michelin’s... but seems to be much love for the Dunlop’s too.

I can't speak to the pros/cons of one over the other, but am in the market for some PS4S, and struggling to find a full set for <€750/£640 (and that's before fitting/balancing). If you have a link you could share for those around the £500 mark, it would be much appreciated!

I haven’t tried those Dunlop’s but the PS4S’s are the best tires I’ve ever had.

I had a similar quandary last year and with discounts and Quidco casback the PS4’s were coming in pounds dearer than my other option at that time Vredi’s so I followed the recommendations on here and glad I did

Don't think you'd be disappointed with either, but if you want a slightly quieter ride and possibly better longevity I'd pimp for the Dunlops, I'm very happy with them

+1

Michelin PS4S all day long.

MPS4S have finished in the top 3 for every tyre test they are entered in (90% of the time in the top 2) whereas Dunlop Sportmaxx RT2 are an older tyre, and generally finish somewhere in the midfield.

to use a F1 analogy, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and 4S are Mercedes. Goodyear Eagle F1 are Redbull. Dunlop are probably... Renault?

While that analogy may have some weight to it you have to have some context of real world experience, most of those tests are track based and whilst very useful and offer hints of how they would behave on normal road driving conditions they dont have much real world experience , Ive tried the Michys and goodyears both in the the last 12 months, both brilliant in their own right but I'd take the Dunlops over them both every time for real world road driving as they provided plenty of grip, comfort and overall capability but throw in the odd track day or if I was driving with a heavy foot 9/10ths of the time I might choose different

PM’d you details re Michelin Spring 2021 offer

Thanks gents, didn’t receive any notifications of replies on the thread (weirdly)

Interesting, I can get the PS4S for £12 more fitted than the Dunlop’s £517 vs £505 - this is in 235/35/19 & 255/35/19 - prices jump with 265/30 or 275/30 on the rear for both brands.

I’m not massively concerned about longevity, in the sense that it’s a weekend car that will do a few thousand miles a year, although obviously if the Michelin’s wear significantly faster than the Dunlop’s that’s worth taking into consideration.

From a noise perspective, most of the time the car’s going to be driven roof down and either set will be significantly quieter than 255/35/19 & 275/35/19 Continentals I would have thought  :driving:

Thats fair, a lot of tests measure quite objectively, absolute braking distances, lap times etc. But real world, subjective opinions are equally valid, wear rate, noise and comfort are often missed off tyre tests. I know evo is special in that they give subjective scores too.

I think my preferences for tyres align fairly well with tyre tests and i like data, but real world driving is different.

And everything i say is BS anyway, ive never driven either michelin or dunlop, im a hankook and goodyear guy! I want to be a michelin guy, but cant afford it
