I congratulate the Boys of 66 for a great achievement 50 years ago and admire the gentlemanly way they went about it and the dignity they have shown since. Its very sad that a few if them, like Booby Moore, Alan Ball, etc are no longer with us too.
However....it also brings home the enormity of the shambles that we have experienced ever since, in the fact that we havent managed to replicate it, or even reach a final since and that we are now having a mass commemorative weekend to mark the 50 years. The likes of Brazil and Germany, who have won it countless times since must be pi**ing themselves !

but missing a couple of teeth .I've never watched the match either, strange really. I did meet Gordon Banks though a few years back at a garden centre of all places near Nantwich, I think he lives that way. He was behind me in a food queue at the restaurant and it was one of those surreal moments deciding if it was him which it was. A really nice guy along with his wife. He was generally being ignored, think most people didn't know who he was which I guess is how he would like it day to day.

Now I see neither the Dutch, Holland or the Netherlands have ever won it !!! (But have managed 3 finals in 1974, 1978 & 2010)
