19" Winter tyres

So I still have my 296 wheels kicking around and I was considering putting winter tyres on them to help protect my 313's over winter and give me more use of the car.

225 35 19
255 30 19

Over £900 I'd have to pay out in rubber. There must be a cheaper way??

you can get
225 35 19 on all 4.
225 wide will fit a 8.5 wide wheel with minimal stretch.

However after a quick search the cheapest i can find (camskill, mytyres and blackcircle) you are still looking at £233 a corner :(

My advise.. get some cheap second hand 18" wheels... for under £400.

Falken HS-439 are £96 a corner on mytyres.

Total cost under £800.

The 18" wheel option I considered, but then I'd have 296 piled up and the 18" wheels and tyres piled up aside them in summer. I'm loathe to sell the 296's as I know I'll get little for them because of their cracking reputation. I planned to keep them and put them back on the Z if I ever sold it. Selling the 313's separately. Looks like a non starter as I really don't want to fork out £900 on tyres for them...

I have 2 sets of wheels piled up too! My original new 108's and my winter set.

You could always sell your Z with the winter wheels... esp if you are px'ing the car

Chiming in to keep an eye on this thread. My 35i is running on the 326 19" wheels at the moment but I want to sort a winter tyre option. As I don't currently have any spare rims anyway I'm interested in going down the 18" (or 17 if possible!) route as it seems to be advantageous to do that.

But trying to get info on changing sizes is a minefield I'm finding. And BMWs winter tyre configurator on their website doesn't seem to be working so no help there.

That £900 worth of tyres could last up to 3 years. Funnily enough, I was just cleaning my winter wheels - looking them over the tyres are good for anther season so that'll be 3 winters I have used mine. That said, my winter set-up is not staggered and the tyres are not directional, so I have been able to swap them front/rear and side to side.

Have a look at grippytyres.co.uk - not sure if they will have what you want, but when I was pricing up some new summer rears they were £40 cheaper - fitted - than any other supplier/fitter. They were recommended by someone on here, and they come to you. Not used them yet, but will do when I need to.

Yeah... I know these aren't popular tyre sizes, hence the price... sigh. If it wasn't for that niggle that I want to move on to a four seat car, I'd just spend it and get it sorted...

Sell your 296's and buy a set of 17" alloys with the proceeds, or surely there is someone willing to swap for a set of 17's

I considered pricing for 19" winter tyres and the prices are to high
so I ended up looking for oem E89 wheels on 17 & 18's but to save cost
went for the 17" 276's, plus whole setup for the cost of 19" winter
tyres, will save money over the next 3-4 years as the
I will be using both sets summer 19's and winter 17's...
just too much hassle getting 19" winter tyres installed and then taken
off ...

I contemplated 17" winters.. but i want to retain some style still so opted for 18's.

The tyre price difference is under £20 a corner from 17 to 18.

£20 a corner is £80 quid a set though, so if you're on a budget it matters...

I have 17s for winters, not bothered about style - makes putting the 108s back on that much more special. The tyres will be done after this winter though and the wheels are getting reeeeeaaaalllly nasty so need a refurb. I may change tack for next winter.

I wonder if these could be an option. Not sure what tyre size tho?
