19" on a 3.0

Hey Guys,

I am just about to swap to Eibach springs & would also love to ditch the 108's & RF's for some 19" CSL reps.

I've tried to get my head around all the different tyre sizes etc, but it's confusing the hell out of me.

I've seen a fair few sets going on eBay for around £400-500 & was wondering if they would fit. Te last thing I wana do is get a bargain only to find they won't fit.

Can anyone break it down for me.

Cheers

First off the wheels need a PCD of 5x120 and centre bore of 72.5mm.

Then you need the wheel width and offset of your existing and potentially new wheels to put into this site to see what effect the new wheels would have. http://www.willtheyfit.com/

If you don't know them, this site will show the details of you current BMW wheels. http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw_alloy_wheels/z4_e85_alloys

You should really use the search function on here though as there are many threads on this topic. Oh, and don't forget to check how much Eibachs lower the car.

RichardG on the forum has 19s on his car, running Eibachs (30mm drop on a 2.5i), and they fit no problem. Looks really good too. Tyre size and wheel offset are key.... You'll need to go for a lower offset than the standard 108s you've got, but I'm not sure how much.

There's a thread here somewhere which has the sizes...

hi,

i have fitted 19" csl reps to my coupe, it's lowered on eibachs and there doesn't appear to be any rubbing issues..i'm still monitoring it!

the wheels were from bmautosport, 19" with offsets of et34 front and et37 rear.

the tyre sizes are 225/35 front and 255/30 rear, obtaining these sizes is a pain, there are about 3 choices, i went for the nankengs, as i wanted to ascertain how well it all worked (2nd hand tyres are worthless so no point blundering with pricey ones imo). you may be able to go up a width on the tyres to get more choice but things would start to get tight, the other thing to consider is the shape of the tyre, continentals contisports taper off quite a lot on the shoulder (to give a more progressive drift iirc) whereas some of the cheaper tyres have quite a square shoulder, this will put rubber where you don't want it.

i worked out this had the following effect benchmarked against the original 108's (notwithstanding the 'eibach effect')

fronts are 13mm further out in the arch and the RADIUS is 1.45mm larger.
rears are 25mm further out in the arch and the RADIUS is 0.05mm smaller.

the effect of lowering your car is more subjective, the spring rate of lowered springs should be stiffer, retarding the travel so the effect on clearance should be minimal, however springs do soften with age so this may cause some issues.

hope this is some help.
