Nice,Darren

I thought the OEM 224 alloys offsets were 32&40,front&rear?
Doesn't that different offsets on the csl wheels matter??

Craig, put the details of the wheels into an online tyre calculator. It will give you a visual picture of the differences between say 224’s and CSL’s. How much further they stick in and out, and the diameter etc.

Previously, I had CSLs fitted with Eibachs and OEM dampers as well as a strut brace and I ran the maximum obtainable negative camber through pulling the camber pins. This made the ride truly horrible on rough roads compared with running 224s and the same suspension set up. The front wheels followed every furrow in the tarmac and the car was very skittish and unpredictable. The handling on the track using 224s was significantly improved with this suspension set up over OEM and I preferred the look of the CSLs, so I kept running this with the CSLs on the road for a while.

I then fitted KW Clubsports with camber plates and H&R ARBs as well as making numerous other suspension changes. This transformed the handling on the track and changed the ride on the road to tooth-breakingly hard but well controlled (although it remained skittish unless I backed off the bump and rebound). With this set up, I had to use 5mm spacers with my CSLs to adequately clear the suspension.

I’ve recently fitted an AP Racing BBK front and rear and no longer require spacers with my CSLs.

Overall, I suspect that CSLs with OEM suspension would be a reasonable combination, but I would avoid 19” wheels with lowering springs especially when running more negative camber.

Here you go as you like it :D

Looks great Darren  This could have been taken as it left the factory (ignoring the cars in the background).

Thanks Richard, it is totally original apart from the wheels which are a modern version of what would’ve been available at the time and triple 40’s which were also a period upgrade, I have the OEM wheels and restored caps too :driving: sorry for the High jack Craig  :D

Will you be able to keep up with my 260 Darren, give you a race to Le Mans mate first one there gets the beers in,Z is looking good, pick the m up on Wednesday

I eventually grew tired of the ride on 19s, having gone from 224s to CSLs. Now I’ve gone up a profile size and I think it’s a good compromise between looks and ride/handling, but although 265/35 is a comfortable fit on the rear, 235/40 is too much on the front (without arch liner modification and minimal suspension drop).

265/35 and 245/35 would be perfect, I reckon - in fact, this is similar to what you’ll find on current gen M2s and Caymans.

I think you’re right... I like the stock 18s just as they are too.

What spacers would you recommend though, if at all? Thinking Eibachs but not sure what width just within ‘sensible’

OEM CSL’s with no spacers. Dropped 25mm on H&R’s

This exact photo was my inspiration for upgrading to the Z4MR from my DD 2.0i which I still own. Neighbours must think im bonkers...

So, yes I think this is the way to go from my stock 18s. Not too keen on spacers either.

Thanks!
