£188 for brake fluid change?!

Surely this can't be right.

I have a 3.0 si sport coupe and Hexagon of Highgate have quoted me £188 for a brake fluid change. They originally said £101, now they say that given that the car has DSC, it's £188

It's the garages choice as to what they charge as BMW (UK) don't seem to operate a corporate 'menu' pricing policy. Best best is to shop around.

Anyone know any decent dealers or indys in the North London area?

The local dealers have been terrible getting back to me with quotes.....

I paid £86, (i think) from BMW Specialist Cars Luton. They did have it for a service at the same time. But over £100 seems a bit steep.

If you haven't realised from that quote Hexagon are an absolute bunch of jesters. Avoid like the plague and look up BMW Park Lane service dept instead. Their guys are great from my experience. Just changed my brake fluid there for £80 or thereabouts.

But how do you reset the brake fluid indicator?
Brake fluid indicator?

Don't think I have one of them? Or do I need to RFTM?
yes RTFM :D

press the S/R button on start up and display changes to a date - that date is your fluid change date...

You can get a BMW reset box thing off ebay for sub £20. I got one as the local garage fitted my new pads/discs/fluid/cables last year but wanted £50 to reset the brake warning light. Next time I'll do it myself ad it's pretty simple, got a 1 man bleeding kit from halfords that does the job well.

I guess mine will need reset then as I doubt the mechanic I use to service my Z4 would know about that either.

is there something special about this then that means i cant just do this with my eezi bleed kit then? must admit i didnt know about the date thing either.

You can use the ez bleed, the indicator on the dash is date related, I'm not sure but I'd imagine it's going to pop up every 2 years. The only issue is resetting of the indicator / date, as mentioned pressing the s/r button shows the date, I don't know if there is a sequence of buttons to press to reset it but I just bought a tool on eBay so I could do it.
