Hi , thinking of changing my mv2 & runflats ! had 18" staggared csl on my z3 ! wish i had kept them now ! anyway want to change to csl reps with non run flats.i have a 3.0 si coupe anyone had good or bad points with 19" wheels or should i stick with 18" ? want to improve the ride no waste it !

Funny I was thinking about this after seeing a thread this morning. Can't speak technically, but I was looking at a few Zeds with 19" CSLs on them and I just thought they looked to big. Personal opinion.

For Performance, MPG, Handling, Tyre Cost, Ride quality = 18"
For Looks = 19"

or

Brain = 18"
Heart = 19"

or

Break the mould and do a 18/19 combo... I personally think it'd look ACE but never had the guts to try myself :(

Usually an easy choice this one on most cars, but with the Coupe it can be a difficult one, as it`s one of the few performance cars where an 18 already looks good enough as it is, possibly down to the suspension being reasonably lowered already ?

I do think the 19 CSL`s look great though....... 8)

i prefer 19's but its a question of taste....... i've just bought some 20's so will see how those look when i fit them in the new year :D

I have taken some advice on wheel size as i so wonted the look the 19" give the car but the advice that is comeing back is 18"
i have been told that the 19" will kill the ride and that they are more prone to cracking and damage, i spoken to BM autosport last week and they did kind of comfirmed that the 19" were more for show and if i wonted a better ride the 18" would be the best bet :thumbsup:. A frend runes a 335 M sport which have 19" and he says the ride is just bang and crash all the time and he has had problems with wheels craking, i suspect it is down to the run flat's and the low profile of the tyre which like running on solid rumber ( more like a cart wheel ) of couse non run flate would improve this a great deal. If i'm wrong on please some one tell me i'm speaking Bull, be fore i pick what size wheels to get, at the prensent it's going to be the 18" for me :(

I went from 18" 108's with run flats to 19's with nrft and the ride quality is actually better then the 18's with the rft.

I did notice a drop in acceleration and braking... probably due to the weight of the wheels (rolling diameter is virtually the same)

Other things to take into consideration are costs... 19" wheels and mainly tyres cost more then 18's.

Reason why i went for 19's over 18's.... purely for the looks... but personally i think 18's are pretty much spot on.. to complete the look of my car on 19's i really need to lower it looks a little 4x4 like - and its already on 15mm lower sport springs.

i fancied the csl reps but really wanted to stick with 18 s but the 18 s dont come in the staggered fitment and the wheels look flat rather than dished like the 19 s , i quite fancy mv 3 s but where do you find them ???????

Thanks ! i had 18" csl reps staggard deep dish on my z3 i sold a few months ago.think it will be 18" with non rft`s.i have a 335d msport with 19" and also bridgestone RFT`S and the ride is fine , abit hard but no tramlining ! z4 is shockin !

Staggered 18" CSL replicas certainly ARE available - I came across several sets when I was wheel shopping prior to changing to my 202s. Unfortunately I don't have the links or saved the seller, but they are out there. I agree that the dishing just didn't look quite right on any of the 18" reps I've seen though.

Just look at the cartoon caricature of a Z4 in the banner at the top of the page. :)

Why on earth would you want your car to look like that. :rofl:

19s in black look a bit smaller and IMO don't look too much like a boy racer... ride is fine, in fact, its amazing if you swap from run flats to some quality rubber.
ONLY prob for me is they curb so easily, mine are 1yr old now and ready for refurb already. hmmm maybe smoke chrome next....

I have 19 inch summer wheels and 18 inch winter wheels.

Note that both of my 19 rear summer wheels have cracked when I was driving this past summer on RFT. I understand many more 19 inch wheels have cracked in the UK (make a search for UK Watchdog cracked BMW wheels). Check out my Homepage in the Cracked Wheel Album.

If you go to 19 inch and use RFT make sure you inspect the inside outer rim often for cracks. Just my 2 cents.

I just bought an E89 2015 that came with 19" run-flat. I can say this is the most uncomfortable car I have ever driven in my life, I spend my time watching for bumps and portholes while driving , and God knows how terrible the UK roads are.
I am in the process of changing them to 18" normal tires which I hope will make a big difference in comfort.

Well I've run 19" with RFT, then 17" with cheap tyres, 17" with Continentals and then 18" with Continentals.

Bearing in mind I run an E89 20i with msport springs..

Handling wise: 19" worse, then 17" with cheap tyres, then 17" with Contis and best was 18" with Contis

Comfort wise: 19" shocking, 17" cheap tyres better, 18" Contis a bit better, best 17" with Contis..

Your opinions may vary..
