18” Options on Silver E85

So after fitting new tyres I have found out that the 108s I have fitted is severely bucked..... I thought it was just the rft tyres!

Just trying to look at options to replace but looking for inspiration or shall I try and repair the buckled wheel as I like the 108sCAAA34DD-953A-4091-8430-B6715C18DE81.jpeg

Buckled can often be used in the wrong context.
Before you jump off the cliff
Is it a front or rear?
Does it balance up or not?
Has it recently been apart for refurb?

Hi,

It’s the drivers side rear, not been refurbished apart from a cheap spray by the previous owner.

Did a short video of the wheel, but unable to upload it but it shows a couple of flat spots on the wheel, it’s not sealing with the tyre properly.

Most decent refurbishers can fix a flat spotted wheel quite easily. May cost you around £30 per flatspot though. That was what my wheel refurbisher quoted me.

Alternatively, get some other oem wheels or even aftermarket ones. I always thought these were nice as they appear to look larger than other 18'' alloys, most likely due to the spokes which go all the way out to the edge of the alloy.

I met Nick (a member on here) a while back. He had this style of wheel on his zed in 18'' and I could've swore they were 19's. They looked very good and suit the Z4 well.

If you're giving up on them why not get a soft hammer and try hit it out? I had an old set of mv2s that had 2 flatspots and I slowly and gently hit them out. Ran them for a year without issues before selling the car

Definitely doable , i've had a few rims with inner flat spots , warmed up with a blowlamp & using a rubber mallet very often they will manipulate back with some "gentle" persuasion

I put Zito 935s on my silver E85 recently. I didn't go with silver wheels as I dont think they have the same visual impact on a silver car. I opted for Gloss Black.

Thanks for the replies.

I’ve contacted first aid wheels on the OEM route and they gave a quote of £40-200 plus vat on the rear wheel (having seen the video of the wheel on the balance machine) to repair and enable the swap, meaning a swap could be nearly £750 (all wheels do need refurbishment).

I like the look of the Zito 935 and I also quite like the look of these Veeman FS23, also an extended spoke design.

I like these a lot but the gloss black would be too much for me and agree that silver on silver will lose impact, may have to be graphite grey! what drop in ride height have you got and did the wheels bolt straight on with no rubbing?

I'm running Eibachs so about 15mm lowering over M Sport, 30mm over SE. The wheels are 8.5" et35 and 9.5" et40. I'm running M Spec tyre sizes which have a 5% higher sidewall than standard and I've had no rubbing issues.

Just a thought, but are there any E89 wheels you like?

Only wondering as I wanted to replace the 108s on my E86 before they started to suffer from corrosion around the bolt-holes, and I got a set of 295s from a forum member who had replaced them with a set of 19s. They are still a 5 spoke style, but aren't split rims so no corrosion issues. And the bonus is staggered 18s on E89s have different offsets so they sit 18mm further out at the front and 10mm on the rear - so no spacers required!

Alternatively there is a set of M 224s for sale on here:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=116785

But I can understand why you like the Zitos and Veemans.

Looking forward to seeing what you end up fitting.

Just taking this one step further there's a whole host of BMW Oem wheels you might want to consider. The MV3's from E9X 3 series can look great on a E85, just look at Patriot66's car. I know the OP doesn't want gloss black (as in Patriot's case) but I've seen then in shades of grey on Titanium E9X's and they do look quite good.

I decided on a new set of Veeman FS23 rims in gloss grey.

Really really pleased with these

Here’s my e86 on oem BMW 405M winter wheels and m tyre sizes (225/45/18). Very light wheels as they’re forged and the square set up definitely has better balance as the 3.0si is overtyred with 255 rears. It does not however look as good of course. Hopefully useful context for you...

Are you still running on the standard SE spec springs and shocks?
Ive been reading up on ways to make the ride in my Si Sport a little more supple. So if i 45's fit with the SE setup perhaps thats the way forward..

I’m not now, I’m running sport springs and B6 shocks - rides pretty firm now to be honest but the 45s take the edge off things. I found the sport springs didn’t feel much harder than the SEs in practice. Think it’s a more noticeable difference to have decent shocks that are not knackered (my old ones were!).

do you not get any rubbing with the 45s on 18" ? I was thinking SE springs would negate rubbing because (i think) theyre slightly bigger. But if the sport springs give enough height for that setup then just increased sidewalls on tne tyres would be my first move.... i think..
