Also do your research on the companies which are offering the cheapest quotes - some of them seem to have quite a lot of bad feedback.

But also keep in mind that people are more likely to complain to the world about bad service but not so forthcoming with praise for good service. I have read MANY bad and down right awful reviews for some insurance companies, admiral always seems to take a hit but actually I've used them for years, had an accident and I thought here we go but actually they were top class couldn't do enough

Need to keep in mind that insurance companies don't just not pay out because they feel like it, there is always two sides to every story and I'm sure if all the facts were presented from both sides then some of these complaints may bring to light that someone has possibly given false information at the outset resulting in the claim being invalidated. That said there is still some real random companies out there who maybe don't provide such a great service.

Admiral.

My daughter was the eldest, so she was the main driver. My son was named driver and so was my wife and I. That last bit made a huge difference.

We bought the car a year before my daughter turned 17, cost us £100 to insure and adding my daughter as a named driver first during the lessons, and once passed my son was 17 so we changed it about and thought it was pretty reasonable.
DONE. Absolute cracking deal!!!!
£1,159 for the 2 girls and also a brilliant deal on a multi car policy for my other cars. All same starting date and huge multi car discount.
Thanks again.

Glad you are sorted - now the next challenge................get through the first year and get the all important NCD
Good luck

I bought my daughter a new Toyota IQ. Plenty available second hand now. Good insurance group, but more importantly, it a EURO ENCAP 5 car, is fitted with 9 airbags and is very easy to live with. Nice and safe for the loved ones in your life.

If you go for the IQ 2 (squared) you get automatic aircon, electrics, keyless entry, alloys etc. She loves it as its a city car that can carry 4 small folks or 3 largish folks.

no boy racer stigma attached at all!

been there with 4 kids 1.2 corsa wife as main driver Sophie on as a named driver £800 last year

be very careful doing this its called fronting and is illegal.its fine if the kid uses it occasionally or in the evenings or so but if its done where the kid uses every day and is not the primary driver its basically insurance fraud.

funny about the saxo being more than the 106 as they are basically the same car with a different badge

ralas that is amazing price for some one so young. just done the z for me and it was 600

Here's a tip. I tried getting a quote by talking to someone. But they were unable to do so without a quote reference.

They suggested I get started with the quote online and if I get stuck to call them with that reference and they'd take over.

Admiral's young driver and multi car deal was unbeatable!!!! imo.

Oh back on topic. Did I mention the Honda jazz is a great little car. Actually it's a bit of a Tardis, deceptively spacious interior

Nissan micra, hyundai getz and skoda fabia arnt bad either..

+1 on the Nissan Micra Mk2 - great for 1st time drivers, ride is high, you can see the front where the car ends and lots of visibility from the oversized windows

Just bought a 1.0 Yaris for Alice (19, 1yr NCB) and it was a reasonable £600 ish fully comp with wife and brother as named drivers and including a 20% discount for having a "black box"

Bizarrely adding wife put the cost up! :scratchhead:
