163mph Z4M driver jailed.

I'd guess the ECU stores all inputs for a rolling period - TPS being one of them.

I've known people to takes cars back to the dealer complaining the engine has blown up, only for them to scan the ECU and see it hit over 10k RPM on a downshift ;)

The incident looks to me like an attempted suicide that did not work. Not sure that would help the family of the dead though

Not a nice way to go...

I did not realise the Z stored throttle position at impact, etc.?? Speed pre and post would have been sophisticated guestimates based upon skid lines, final resting place of each car, amount of crumpling, etc. Not an exact science but sadly the guys do it most days of the week.

A Honda CTR crashed outside a house I have in Richmond. Its a main route through to Kingston but its a narrow road and a 30MPH limit....the guy crashed at 4am doing over 100MPH and took out 20ft of fence. He had three pasengers, one of whom died. The impact apparently sounded more like a bomb going off, and the car disintegrated...I wasn't there at the time but I am told the Police closed the road the next day and started thrashing down the road in another Civic, doing 100MPH and slamming on the brakes to compare the skid marks?!?

Which sounds bloody dangerous to me as the road is a 30 limit.
