My daughter's 16th birthday is a week away (she was born on Valentine's day 2006).
It got me thinking about the same time when I was that age. On October 1st 1983, a week before my 16th, I had a 1982 Kawasaki AR50 waiting in the garage for me to ride when the time came. I paid for it myself and had a paper round to pay for the running costs. Every day after school I would sit on it, start the engine and dream about freedom in a week's time.
I can't imagine the same scenario with my little girl at the same age; I would NOT let her anywhere near the roads at her age.
How times have changed!! :|

I had taught both of ours to drive on the local air field, by they were 16. :D

My dad taught me on southport beach, when I was 13. :driving:

Sooner you learn the more confident you are in my book. 8)

That doesn't mean your any good by the way, just more confident.

I had no interest in biles and was saving for my first car at that point - I wanted an AR GTV but my old man said buy a Cortina it will cost you less to run, yeah right, two years and every time I got paid it broke down, even ha 2 steering racks in 18 months.

Buy her a car and teach her on some track days for kids

Pondrew ,
did you get the AR 80 big bore kit for the 50 ? Made it into a 70mph beast , that would scare many 125s of that era ???

No mate. I just took the baffle out and re-jetted the carb. It would do 50mph on a good day. Loved that little bike, it gave me total freedom at 16 and I was 'cool' because I was the first of my school year to have one. I loved riding it to school while all of my peers were crowded on buses!
I PXed it for a new AR125LC on my 17th birthday and have been a 'Kwaka man' ever since.

I couldn't imagine my daughter being let loose on the roads, she can only just cross the road on foot! :o

42 years on bikes, 2 Yamaha’s, 3 Honda's, 1 Suzuki, 1 Triumph, 4 Kawa's and my current BMW.

Last two Kawa's.

My Dad used to let me drive the car when I was about 11 when we used to go to race meetings at Cadwell Park and Mallory Park in the car park when everyone else had gone home..
