16" Star Spoke 102 alloys and Bridgestone RFT's 5/6mm value?

Hi,

I have found a Z4 for sale with 16" type 102 (not the basic 16" star alloys), 5 spoke alloys (they look like 108's but smaller and not split rim) with almost new Bridgestone Runflat tyres. The alloys themselves are pretty much mint.

The problem is, I would buy the car if it had 17" type 103 double spoke, or type 106 turbine alloys, but given that the wheels are in such good condition along with the very good/matching tyres I feel that it would'nt be cost effective to replace them unless I could recover some reasonable value from the outgoing wheels/tyres !!

What would the 16" wheel/tyre combination be worth ?

Given that the tyres alone would be £400+ new, is there anyone out there on 17" wheels who desperately needs new tyres but is strapped for cash at the moment !!!

Also, does anyone know of any type 103 or type 106 alloys with or without tyres for sale in order for me to gauge the cost of the swap.

I have ruled out the 18" 108 and 107 alloys on ride quality and tyre cost grounds.

Thanks from a "keen to be" Z4 owner !!

Nick,

Why not keep the 16" and put some winter tyres on them and then get another set to suit you with good quality ummer tyres. Dont rule out the 18" wheels as with good rubber non RFT they give an excellent ride - had 108s on mine since new and certainly not criticism of the ride quality.

if the car is perfect buy it - worth its wait in gold if it is a great car rather than months of extra searching. For the sake of a few hundred quid on wheels it would be daft to pass up on a good car.

I'm sure you could get 150-250 for your wheels.
Good luck and welcome.

Alan, do you happen know what view insurance companies in the UK take on running the Z4 on non-RFT tyres ? Do they treat is as a "modification" and so use it against you when it comes to setting the premium ?

I have an E60 525d with 17" Runflats and I wouldnt call the ride perfect by any stretch of the imagination (particularly as the tyres begin to wear), and I also test drove a Z4 with 18" 108's on Bridgestone RFT's - it was great on a good surface (like it was on rails), but was too harsh for me on our normal UK roads.

Perversely, the 16" wheels and tyres drive very well indeed - its the look of them that bugs me, they do nothing for the look of the car.

Paddy, thanks for the ebay link - I am "watching" them !!

Cheers

Nick
