155 limiter

Never been near the limiter but I'd surely like to get there. Not into track days so maybe if I get to Deutschland, although that is only a twinkle at present, no real plans...

Found an old add for a Zed with the M Driver's package.

https://www.carthrottle.com/post/classifieds-car-of-the-day-bmw-z4m-roadster-with-added-clout/

Though the price, in Feb 2014, was the bit that got me smiling. :o

I can assure you all that the car in question does NOT have the M package, other wise called the Drivers' Pack and is not de-restricted. I can say that with confidence because it's my car! I didn't buy from this advertisement - I bought it from a trader in April 2014 and paid £10,995 less the rather generous part ex they did on my old X-Type Estate.

I did get a BMW dealer to check it over to ensure that the restricted chip was there and it is. Further research showed that BMW only offered the "Drivers' Pack" on the M Coupe, not the Roadster (presumably in the hope of making the Coupe more desirable :poke: ).

So now you know!

Just proves never believe anything you read in an advert, check it yourself.

I did think Taz mentioned the mod was Coupe only, a while back. Probably as the roof on the roadster might blow out. Another reason to keep it stowed.

I don't think I am wreck less enough to find out.

My m3 Is delimited but I dare not push it past 120 incase some serious mechanical failure happens.
130 is the fastest I've been on the Autobahn.

I did see quite a few accidents driving on the Autobahn when I went through Germany so that definitely kept me from seeing what speed I could reach.

Loads of cars overtaking me and I was doing 120..absolutely bonkers.

Last week took my son to pick up his new car in Basingstoke early evening along M27/M3, decided to see what she'll do. Think i hit the limiter, speedo was at 160 wish and iPhone GPS recorded 151, need long road though.

A good bit of education for your son. :(
I dont think I ever seen my dad go over 80mph.

Got to say if true that's just plain craziness on any UK road :x way too many potential hazards to do that safely not just for yourself but other road users driving sanely :(
Prison sentence territory for obvious reason's !

If it's long and straight with no other cars about have a crack  I've only done it 2/3am with nothing else about.

Hits a sweeter spot on the torque curve maybe. Higher HP at higher revs maybe too. Defo picks up a little bit in acceleration.

If you plot the RPM or vehicle speed against time in each gear, you'll find acceleration is almost perfectly linear throughout the bottom 80% or so of the rev range in each gear, except near the very top when it starts to taper off. Perhaps what you're finding is that you've been driving up to 120mph right up to the rev limiter in 4th gear, then when you change up, you're instantly dropping the revs into the peak torque range for 5th gear, so that you then feel that you are accelerating more? But as you continue to accelerate in 5th gear, the acceleration will taper off again as you get towards the rev limit.

The age old question is when is the optimum point to change gear for maximum acceleration?

When I've done it it's been in 6th from 70 all the way up. Guidok explained quite well at the top of the page.

He's a 31 year old qualified accountant, and races (amateur) as his pastime. The car we were collecting was an BMW E60 2010 M5. He's somewhat past educating, point taken though.

Try the M27 at 7:30 in the morning on a grey, misty morning. Visibility greatly reduced, yet the great mass of "Good people" careering along with complete abandon, travelling too fast, nose to tail. Accidents are a daily occurrence.
But i agree it is irresponsible, whatever the conditions.
Point taken though !

Best bet is Germany. I've done most tracks in the country and I've not come across one where you could max out these type of cars. Maybe Bruntingthorpe , but I don't really class that as a track. Nothing quite prepares you for cruising at 140+. It's one thing to accelerate up to top speed, for a short time, but cruising will have every fibre in your body tingling, certainly focuses the mind lol.

It does put a different spin on it, I did have visions of you taking him for his first Fiat Punto and then him trying to replicate your journey.

I,ve tipped the 155 mph limiter several times on the autobahn in Germany.
One of those times was with 3 other members of the dutch Z4 forum, one of them was GuidoK.
It was bit frustrating seeing Guido accelerating at 155 and driving away from me  :x

Bit leftfield but the most I've had on the autobahn was 145mph, sadly this was in a VW Sharan with a full load (5up and luggage!) I was quite impressed to be honest as I thought it would be gutless.

I got one of those. :) Well almost he's only 23 and not fully qualified yet. Take care and enjoy your cars. :driving:

Did vmax200 in my M, 2 mile runway, speedo read 170-172, laser speed indicated 162-163.

Six speed was also there and he managed 167-168 laser indicated, although he has a few mods.
