Hopefully it is just moisture that's shorted something out, and it will be fine once it has dried out.
 
Could be caused by the Final Stage Resistor (FSR or 'Hedgehog') getting damp and failing, it's buried up under the dash but there is lots of info on the forum about changing them. I got a cheap 'knock-off' unit from ebay which didn't work properly and was a waste of money.

I missed this thread - what was the original problem he had?
Was it something he might not want to show up on his posts history - for example, if a potential buyer were to look at such time as he advertises his car for sale...?

Well I wrote the initial issue, but then thought, delete that! If the reason you suggest is correct, I've just negated it :roll:
