108's

Took my coupe to the dealer today to inspect the 108's. They were all showing a little bit of corrosion but some worse that others (and some as a result of me getting intimate with a curb or two). So at this stage they have agreed to definatley change 2 and when they pull the rims off the car they will inspect the rest and if they identify any corrosion at the back they will replace. I reckon that they will replace 3 of them with no issues. The interesting thing is the outstanding alloy they are going to get reconditioned for me and it will only cost £60 - I think thats a fab cost. While it is in they are going to look at the clutch release bearing which is very noisy and try and resolve my squeeky windsceen wipers (not the blades). Finally they agreed to give it a good polish for me as a gesture of goodwill

Pretty happy I have to say (as long as they do replace 3 of the alloys and not just the 2!!)

Sqeaky wipers = WD40 on the wiper arm joints and gone forwever (well - 9 months through all weathers so far!).

Tied that last week and lasted literally 3-4 days!! With the weather we are getting this summer and for that reason the amount of use the wipers are getting it is probably the motors about to pack in...

I have just had a quote from a company to powder coat my 108's and then add a Flash Chrome effect to the centre.
£80 each. I will go and take a look at some of their work next week.
My wheels were replaced by BMW about 3 years ago for the same reason but have started to corrode again now.

I had a new windscreen motor fitted under warranty for same reason in march problem is back again, as reported by others before the problem is probably where the spindle passes through the plastic panel (cant remember the proper name).

can you keep us posted on the out come of the clutch release bearing, mine went in for the same reason, they ended up replacing the gear box but the noise is back :headbang: . haven't been bothered to do anything about it yet.

Picked the car up on Sunday from the stealer after having all the issues looked at and here are the responses (which was left in a letter as they had dropped it to the airport for me to pick up on my return):

108's replaced 2 only  Pretty sure they should have replaced the other rear one so will have to pull it off take some pictures and go and have another row with them!!

Odd thing was in the 2 they have replaced the nozel for blowing up the tyre is really deep into the hole in the alloy. So deep that when I was checking the pressure they had put in (which was a joke!) I could hardly attach the air line as they were so deep in this hole - why is this the case & this cant be right??

In terms of the noise which they described as a whirring noise they have diagnosed this as the alternator (has anyone else had a problem with there alternator and would they descibe it as a whirring noise issue) and having allegedly checked for "measure/fix" they are saying there is "no further action required at this stage" - what does that mean....like in 3 months when your car is out of warranty you need a new alternator sir!! Any views on this??

The wiper issue was solved with lubrication and adjustment of the linkage but they have said any further issues then a new linkage is required.

Overall a bit of a short term fob on issues that will no doubt manifest themselves in the long term. Can anyone offer me some advice/ideas on the above points?

Cheers

That is where mine very faintly squeaks from too :)

I can rarely hear it, when it's wet it seems to go away, and I only use wipers when it's wet, soooo :)

Find a new garage, :poke: sorry couldn't resist.

Did they polish it for you as a gesture of goodwill or did they forget. Did they mistake the clutch release baring nose for a whirring alternator?

Not sure about that I did expain to them that the noise does change with clutch in but hey ho will be up next weekend for the "Joy" weekend - going to see if I can test drive an M3  and will speak to them then.

They have stated in the letter that they will polish it up once they recondition the remaining alloy (s) grrrr!!

In terms of the windscreen wiper mine was a constant sqeak and you could hear it quite clearly - even in the wet :poke:
