108's & warranty ?

I have noticed tonight that the inside edge (the bit inside, just past the spokes) has started to peel on my alloys, it feels like a plastic coating which comes off if you pick at it. I know these alloys are prone for peeling, bubbling, chewing gum effect etc, but what do you think the chances are of BMW doing anything about it ?

The car is out of warranty but the wheels are spotless, not scratched and are completely unmarked, like new basically, except the inside edge flaking slightly (obviously a fault, ie, couldnt be done by kerbing them). Just wondered if anybody out there has had any experience in getting anywhere with BMW on this, or am i just pi$$ing into the wind on tis one ?

I along with several hundred of us have had our 108s replaced free of charge by BMW. Well it cost me two tyres, as I had a nail in one of my rear tyres. You should have no trouble, just pay BMW a visit. :D

was your car in warranty, or out of warranty to get them changed ?

This might be a daft queston, but it's worth a shot i guess. I recently fitted a set of second hand 108's on my car, I had the rear two refurbed but the fronts need working on. My car is under warranty... do you reckon i could be cheeky and get 'em replaced

Worth a shot i guess, im also in cheshire, so let me know what stealership you go to if you have any joy. Otherwise we could both go, mob handed and get a set each !

Ha, yeah, that could be fun! I've just dropped my Z4 off (again  ) at Bluebell in Wilmslow. I should be picking it up at 5pm today, i may ask them about it then.
Whereabouts are you?

Im just between Altrincham & Sale, so not far away. If you could ask themn that would be cool. Again my car is out of warranty but my alloys have never been kerbed and are immaculate apart from the peeling on the inside through the spokes, if that helps.

Cheers.

I'll try and remember to ask. I've a fair bit of other stuff to go over with them (extended warranty, suspension springs) but will do my best.

Would you want them in 28 inch size again?

Had the chewing gum effect on mine when i bought them but the Stealers would not replace them instead they had a refurb done  well thats what they called it what a mess just sprayed over most of it and clear laquer over brake dust :x

Trouble was the car is mint apart from wheels so no way i was going to walk they must have known that

My friend works for another main agent so gonna see what they say about this and would be very interested to find out how you get on.

Mine were replaced with only a week or so left on the warranty, service manager wasn't sure whether they would replace them but got a phone call later that day to arrange fitting of the new wheels. Worth a shot, nothing to lose.

Well, i didn't get to go to visit the dealers and pick up my car as they need to keep it in till Friday to replace the exhaust and the catalytic converter. Great :x
They only had the car in with them 2 weeks ago for a new camshaft after a spring in a valve in one of the cylinders broke and knackered the lot up, and my car had only done 18.5k at the time. They admitted to me that the exhaust wasn't properly refitted during the work, which would explain why i've been driving around with the engine light on (on their advice, "it's just a light") for the past fortnight. Well done BlueBell in Wilmslow!
So, I've not had chance to see if i can get a new set of 108's. BUT, this may work in my favour. They've admitted shoddy workmanship, they've told me it will all be done under warranty and apologised profusely. Perhaps if i cause enough fuss i may be able to wangle a new set of wheels eh? My worry is, the wheels weren't on the car when it was orginally sold. Nor were they on my car when i bought it from an independent dealers. Do BMW keep a record of what wheels were on what car, or is there even an issue here for me to be slightly concerned about? Because they are BMW wheels on a BMW car that's under warranty do you think i might have a case for getting them replaced? It's very cheeky, i know. But in this world, if you don't ask you don't get.

The dealer will be able to see what wheels were on the car when it left the factory. The problem you have without an original BMW receipt is proof of age, unless there is a casting marks on the hub face.

All you can do is ask.
