108's Corrosion is it bad enough

OK, say I knew my 108's had started to corrode when I cleaned them late last year, and after having four new tyres fitted yesterday gave me another chance to have a good look.

Trying to get BMW to replace, but do you guys think I am wasting my time at present?

It's not visible unless you take the wheels off so there is no asthetic problem as yet.

Minor I know but all four wheels have some corrosion to this level. Warranty expires end of December but they probably wont get much worse over spring/summer and of course they are waxed up.

It does not matter if it is visible or not. I had peeling paint BEHIND the grill in the plastic, and that was obviously fixed as well. I do not care if it was not visible or not, it was there and it was wrong.

The same with the wheels. They rust - end of story. There is nothing to say "they must rust in a visible place".

And in reality, the rust in the places you can't see is the rust that causes you large problems. On top of all that, the corrosion is a KNOWN issue so they should fix it.

I think you have nothing to lose in taking them in and asking for an opinion on the basis that it will only get worse and you have almost a years warranty to go.

BMW are aware of such problems and as posted before have a replacement 108 now being supplied. I also know that all 108 claims are now referred to their head Office and the rims inspected for correct cleaning and maintenance, so expect a bit of push back as they control claims and costs

I am aware that as you say these claims are referred to HO, as pics were taken and sent at Xmas by local dealer. HO havent responded so Service Manager want to inspect himself and is prepared to make the decision, and then claim back.

I have had a lengthy chat with him about them and tried to persuade him to put my Falkens on as it would give them a easy way of checking them, plus if they damaged them no quibbles. The service guy quoted but the Service Manager wouldnt allow the work as they are not as factory approved and I may sue if I have problems (They no longer fit customer or non BMW parts)

I can see that you're way ahead of my thinking then on these rims and getting them sorted. Time to become a thorn in the side of the service manager until you have 4 shiny new one's fitted

If you are still in manufacturer's warranty deffinately get them replaced as your warranty includes wheels. Mine were replaced as a goodwill guesture (but mine were really bad and visible). Get the new ones that should be more resistant to rust from the inside out.

As my car already had Falkens fitted they had to re fit them for me but they didn't like it as after they fitted they mentione my car had not got the specified tyres on. I don't think they realised untill after they had fitted them

I dont believe the my dealer has any issues with running non runflats, it's just they wont fit them. Again they know my wheels are unmarked, and as can be seen from the photos I look after them. I am still thinking about not using the new set when I get them replacied and putting on some CSL reps, only problem is I stil think the 108's are the best looking wheel for this car.

Well, if it helps ive had a similar problem with my 108's- i took my Z4 to the dealer (Lincoln) and they agreed about the issue in a roundabout sort of way and told me they would contact me when the "BMW Warranty" bloke rocks up in March to have a proper look at them. Fingers crossed. So, in short take the car in for them to have a look. Ill update once I have a verdict!.

107's ARE the best... just finding some to buy.

108's are nice enough though, don't want to put them down too much as I'll need to sell mine on
