108's and road salt. Guaranteed corrosion?

Having decided not to put the Z away for the winter as it's too much fun I'm now starting to panic about wrecking my 108's. :roll:

Do they generally just corrode because of the salt or is it only damaged wheels that let the salt in?

Basically I'm trying to avoid them looking manky by the summer so any tips to keep them pristine would be great.

Keep them clean, or get them diamond polished

Its stone chips that let the salt and crap in, then it corroded under it leaving a nice white mark. But you can polish it out with autosol and a decent polisher. Best not to lacquer wheels imo, just diamond polish them and autosol them ones every few months.

108s are just a problem wheel using them winter or summer.

Trouble is the polished lip you only have to get a tiny chip and the water gets in and then it starts to lift the laquer off.

Re protection take them off the car a good wash polish then use a good wheel wax or sealant best you can do.

Re chips if you do get a stone chip a quick fix to help keep water out is clear nail varnish

Still think they are the best looking wheel on a Z4

The only problem I have ever had with them is the inners where the split is, it just traps water. On my third set now and have siliconed this join this time so fingers crossed.

If you keep them cleaned and protected they should last well though. Even though I had mine replaced under warranty you couldn't see any corrosion unless you removed the wheels to see the split.
