everyone will have seen 108s on a sapphire black e85, but perhaps these photos will help anyone considering what theyre like with 30mm drop (and if thats not a desperate grasp at a reason for photo uploads then i dont know what is!)

this pic makes me realise how 'flame-surfaced' the z4 is :)

Looking good mate. Planning on doing the 30mm drop as well myself. Did you use Eibachs?

Also, if you cropped that last picture a wee bit it would be a good entry for the photo comp!

Hi Iain,

It looks very nice - what is involved in doing it.....and being naive in these sort of things, is there a benefit, or is it just that ground hugging look?

Quite a few people have had problems with OEM rear springs snapping and have changed to Eibachs or similar. Main reasons have been a firmer/harder ride with better handling, better quality springs which don't snap and aesthetics. Some people haven't been quite as happy with the change as they've felt it's made the ride TOO hard and there's also the concern about grounding your car because it's a little bit lower!.

If you search for Eibach or snapped springs (or similar) then you'll find pages and pages of discussion (which will explain it a lot better than I have!)

There are also a couple of excellent write-ups on how to change the springs yourself, including PawnSacrifice's and Maxum's excellent guide.

I hope this helps!

jimmy and fatmikey i used these springs - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-2-0-2005-2009-LOWERING-SPRINGS-/200489342139?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eae1894bb - as they were tuv approved i thought they would be fine, and a year in i have had no problems at all with them. thefact they re half the price of eibachs is a bonus. one thing i did notice when i received them is that the paint job on the springs wasnt great, but i thought what the hell, you wont see them once installed. there is a bit corrosion on one of the rear springs now (prob due to paint deficiency) but no issues with spring's current integrity now.

phil, i took the car to a mechanic to fit so not sure whats involved but it cost me £100 for them to fit, so 190-ish all in. i did it for the looks, and im sure that these springs actually made the ride more compliant, but i wouldnt take that as gospel - perhaps it was the placebo effect of a better looking car lol.

I briefly considered a drop, but my god - if the ride in my Zed got any firmer I'd probably cry.

@OP, nice car, any chance of a straight-on side shot? Do you have a before and after pic?

It really annoys me how much of a gap there is between the arch and the wheels - I think I'll probably have to go down the lowering path despite SWMBO's protests!

good call  :driving:

I've not regretted mine - certainly better than snap-happy BMW springs. I stuck with Eibach though purely for reputation as the last thing I wanted was another couple of broken springs...

Two options there:

1. Don't tell her
2. Tell her it will improve fuel economy and save you money long-term.

Easy.
