108 Stud Question

Does anyone know the size and pitch of these studs?

Googling it, other bbs wheels are coming back as M7 with a 1.5 pitch. But I'd like a definite answer for 108's.

Thanks

I was looking into this the other day but can't remember!!

They are m7 can't remember if they are 1.5 or 1mm pitch?!? I will take a look  they are titanium and hard to get hold of.

Thanks guys. To cut a long story short, I got my rim back from being repaired and put the centre back in and torqued down to 26ft lbs, no problem, all studs locked fine.

I thought I'd torque the other wheels as recommended by another forum member as they were off the, all going fine until I got to one of the front wheels and found 5 loose bolts which wouldn't torque down.

I'm pretty disappointed with BM Autosport to be honest, first it was a cracking lacquer, then it was a dog rough replacement wheel which luckily the tyre shop dropped and repaired and now this.
I could contact them again but I'm worried ill just end up with another dodge wheel. I will never use them again.

So I know a few of you guys are mechanically minded, do you think I have anything to worry about with these 5 bolts? They are spread out over the wheel and all the other studs were still torqued.

The plan is to get a helical kit and repair. One other question, are the original holes just tapped into the alloy or are they inserts?

Thanks in advance.

Hi..

I think you will find, that the holes in the barrel (outer rim), are tapped into it and are not inserts, which the BBS bolts secure into..
Helical coil kits, should do the job and solve the issues you have..

However: I would not be inclined to just leave the 5 BBS bolts un-torqued and loose.
There are 20 BBS bolts per 108 rim, from memory and not having 25% of them secured and torqued up etc, is potentially a bit of a disaster waiting to occur..

Personally, I would be dropping the affected rim with 5 BBS bolts which are spinning, back to the company you mentioned, that did the refurbs' prior..
Let them sort the problem..
It may be something potentially simple like a tired and worn thread on the Titanium BBS bolts (albeit, I doubt this). But giving them the chance to resolve the issue in the 1st instance, might be a good way to go.
Hopefully, they won't attempt to blame you and say you have over torqued the thread in the bolt aperture or on a titanium bolt..

Best of luck and let us know, how you get on

Thanks Woolybear, its definitely a hole issue as I've tried a proven torqued stud in one of the holes.

I'm going to have think on it, but it will either be returned to BM or a helicoil kit, I've found a kit so I have 2 options. It won't be left unattended.

Returning it puts me off because I have to go through the hassle of getting the tyre removed again, courier booked and then getting the wheel back and tyre fitted again. It's taken a month nearly to sort out this time. If I could trust them to send me a good wheel I wouldn't be making this thread, but we shall see.

The thing is I've already been driving around for nearly 2 months with it.

The bolts go straight though the outer star and into the inner barrel. There is no sleeve or hardened insert and 99% certainty the thread in the barrel is the stripped part. I've seen a fair few stripped and in fact even sheared studs with just heads glued back in on rims picked up off eBay.

I would not like 5 bolts out on a rim and would bin it, Well actually take it back to the wheel refurber to fix, or them supply a new barrel and bring it to the same colour and finish as yours.

Binning it is not an option. After speaking to BM Autosport this morning it sounds like they don't actually have a wheel to replace it with. Also BM don't refurbish their wheels due to it being too time consuming and farm the work out.

What they have asked for is me to put the problems I've had into written words so they have something to go back to this company with.

Because there is no wheel to replace it with they have financially compensated me in getting it repaired locally.

I'm still annoyed, I've had nothing but dramas with these wheels and wish I'd bought some brand new wheels or 224's. I haven't really enjoyed the car for a while now so will just be glad when this is sorted.

Ill report back once it's been fixed etc.
