108 refurb

I have a set of 108’s and I haven’t been quoted less than £500 which seems like a total rip off.

Has anyone has theirs refurbished including splitting the rims? And how much should I expect to pay. £500 just seems extortionate!

exactly the reason I went for new wheels of a different design... cost of refurb high and high likelihood of needing it again in future...

i know, i love the 108's though, they are the best wheels for the z in my opinion. i might just have to sacrifice them and buy a different set once my tyres need changed

I got my 107's, sorting those, fitting, then I can split and refurb my 108's in my own time (not actually THAT bad), then sell them on. Don't really want them as they are a liability for the future.
Also, the 107's are kinda rarer too... I don't see many Z's with them, and in the skin they look very good... especially on Titanium Silver :D

Got mine done for £225. That was split, repaired, painted and laquered. I did not want the polished rim as it would have been a liability in the future as has been mentioned.
If I am honest, the polished rim probably looks better close up, but from a distance, mine look just as good.

Hope you find someone a bit more reasonable price wise.

i do like the ellipsoids, and i have been pondering over the idea of having a go at a refurb myself. my brother did his and they turned out really nice.

just wondering wether its ok to split the rim myself, or if the bolts have a particular tension when put back together

Where did you get yours done? Was it a chain or independent company?

I would pay that amount straight away if I could find it!

Indipendant near Chelmsford. 'Paint It'
Think he earned his money as it took him a full day for four. Hopefully someone on here can recommend someone close by for a decent price!

Yeah i hope so, i dont think there are many people from near newcastle on the forum from what i have seen.

has anyone had a go at taking split rims apart and doin it themselves?

Had a price from "The Wheel Specialist" in Manchester last week for a full set of 108's fully refurbed for £434.00 inc vat. They make a superb job and all the refurbed wheels I saw on display looked new to me!! Still, it is a lot of money so I'm going to shop around a bit more. Don't fancy getting them done too cheaply as I think you pay for what you get, but over £400 is too pricey for me.

yeah, i was thinking under £400 and i will get it done, when you consider a new set of wheels with tyres would only cost a couple hunder more and you then then have a spare set for the winter that you could refurb in your own time.

the wheel specialist seem to come with high prices

i checked on a website and they were about 1300 if i remember right, i havent looked in too much detail but hey will probably be expensive.

just as i sent my last post i received an email from the wheel specialist offering 15% if i book in this month! im still stuck in the situation where a guy said 400 when i went down and a woman on the phine said that they have a 125pw set price. what to do is the question!! :headbang:

Just had an email from The Wheel Specialists in Manchester who have offered me a better deal on the refurb now - £280.60 for a set of 4 108's stripped, refurbed in BMW silver and balanced. That seems a good offer to me - very tempted.

Try them, see what they quote.

The Wheel Specialists are a good wheel refurbers, no doubt, but I wouldn't say "top quality" as they say.

If you had a Mondeo, or Astra, or something you had as a P&J, then fair do's, but a prestige sports car with alloys that beg to be looked at, then, imho, they won't be good enough.

Also, all their branches are always offering 20-25% off their normal prices, with some offer or another, so don't rush to get them done.

Cheers

Dave
