108 corrosion

cars going in tomorrow to have the pinking investigated, my 108's are corroded on the inside but also on the outside rim due to kerbing by previous owner, what are the chances of BMW replacing them? car is still under warranty for another year.

I think on the basis that they have been kerbed you have slim to no chance, however if you base it purely on the inside corroding where there is no kerb damage then you may have a limited case to go for. I'd agrue that the kerbing is incedental and that you are most concerned that they have corroded from the interface between the 2 parts of star and rim.

As per CJ, IIRC some members have had them replaced even though there has been some kerbing. Good luck.

How many have the problem?

And check what type of 108's they are going to put on as there appear to be two type circulating still, with clear laquer inners, or painted inners.

the corrosion is on the inner rims and between the rim and middle part of the wheel, the inners are clear laquered not painted, they are not that bad but considering the car is only just 2 years old seems unacceptable to me especialy as they are made by BBS.

I had mine done after 2 1/2 years as per http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11392&p=171004#p171004

I had slight kirb damage on one (or two) but they couldnt really argue about the corrosion on the inner. I think where the outer rim had a bit of kirb damage it was quite clear that the corrosion was isolated to that spot and hadnt "spread" to the inner rim.

It appears that a lot of people here have success and I think if you go in there being polite and prove your prepared (i took photos and mentioned the similar stories on this forum) you shouldnt have too many issues.

Like you say, it is only a young car therefore they shouldnt be going wrong already, even with light scuffing. I hope you have a reasonable dealer! Good luck

acerboo, sorry what I meant was the dealer might put on new wheels with a grey/cream inner, so be aware as you could argue they would make the car look odd with some clear and some painted.

Mine were replaced in April, but all 4 new wheels were again with clear inners, which I prefer, just have to keep them waxed.

Mine were never really that bad and you could only see if you took the wheels off, should have left it longer really.
