107 Ellipsoids & wheel spacers

Hi all!!

This an info thread regarding my personnel experience with wheel spacers and ellipsoids.

For comparison my car is a late 2003 3.0se with M sport suspension as standard and 18" 107 ellipsiods. Although I love the look of the ellipsiods I wanted something to fill the arches better.

So we all know the options - buy some CSL's or similar very nice but very expensive for genuine items, buy some new import wheels of any style from ebay for £500 or so and hope they don't explode on the first pothole OR how about maximise the look of your 107s?

Firstly I purchased a set of 15mm hubcentric spacers and fitted them to the rear with great visual effect and no obvious difference to the handling. Looking at the rears it was quite obvious they could space out a litte more. I purchased a set of 18mm hubcentric spacers and fitted them to the rear with the 15mm spacers going on the front. This gave the whole stance of the car a more aggresive look and let the 107s fill the arches perfectly.

Fitting the spacers to the front as expected did change the steering feel but probably no more than fitting wider wheels and was easily adapted to.

I've seen a few negative comments regarding wheel spacers previously but personally I've never had any problems with them having used 17.5mm spacers on other highly modded cars.

So basically -

15mm spacers fit on the front of a 3.0SE with 107s & no rubbing issues.
18mm spacers fit on the rear of a 3.0SE with 107s & no rubbing issues.

I hope this helps anyone with similar intrests.

Cheers, I've been looking at spacers recently.

Did you also have to fit longer bolts?

Hi, yes I bought a couple kits that included longer bolts to fit the spacers.

Did you fit extended lockers? What length bolts did you use?

Would 20mm fit on the rear without issue? 20mm should be bolt on not bolt through though I think.

Sounds good

I'm resisting the urge.....

trying real hard.....

nope. can't help it....

:worthless:
