Good morning all. Haven’t said greetings to you all since joining so Greetings x.
I’m testing a Z4 coupe @99564 miles tomorrow. Could you all recommend what I should look for and what’s the 100k service I’ve seen mentioned many times. I’ve been reading the forum for around 3 weeks and have a budget of 7-8k. It’ll be garaged and kept for ever so looking for a keeper as apposed to an everyday runner. Any advice would be surely appreciated.
Thanks Mark

Welcome Mark , there is no specific 110k service & at 100k /12yrs old treat each potential car on its own merits .
Service wise it should have followed this format every 2 yrs or 14k/15k
oil service
ins1
oil serv
ins2
oil service
ins1 etc etc
Additionally though by now id say that a change of gearbox fluid would be prudent along with making sure the brake fluid / coolant has been changed too

Regular services.
it's a car like most others at the end of the day .
Keep dry over winter
That's about it

Thanks stupot1. The only problem so far is trying to pin people down to view their cars. I guess even if people want to sell them they hang on as long as possible. 🙂

Think Mr Wilks has it all listed there. Welcome to the forum, hope you find a goodun.

Personally I have moved to an annual service as the car is getting older and not doing enough miles get a regular service following the BMW routine. So I now do two oil and brake fluid changed between each inspection.

The owner tells me that the abs and water pump have not been changed as they've not broken. I'd like to change them anyway if I buy the car so what sort of cost am I looking st for these to be done.

Hi there Mark.

I'm not sure what the ABS pump costs, but it won't be cheap. I think ECU Testing can recondition them for sensible money, but I'm not sure if it's worth getting it done if it is working as it should.

Water pumps were made by Pierburg, and BMW charge over £500 for them! But you can get the same pump for more like £250. If you are looking at getting it fitted by a garage I'd try to find a BMW Specialist - probably going to cost the best part of £500 by the time it is fitted.

Good luck finding your Coupe - they are great cars!

Thanks Mr Tidy,
I’ve just put a deposit on a car that looks amazing. I’ll keep you all guessing until I collect it Saturday or the seller says he’s sold it. It’s a forum car so staying with the family. I’m so nervous about driving it. Can’t believe a 47 year old can still feel so excited about a car. :)

Agree with that - don’t worry!
My first Z4 (2004) was sold to a friend several years ago - the car is still used regularly (now in France) without any major problems and it sails through its French Mot every year - keep it serviced and treat it with respect by not using it for silly short trips to the shop for the morning paper and warming it up properly before you boot it

I recall buying my first z4 less than 2 years ago and I knew nothing about zeds - I was even mocked cuz I didn't even know the roof was electric, welcome to the club, and know that there are people here who can fix anything - so relax and welcome to the club and most of all, enjoy your zed.
