I think it would be nice if it is set so that it only counts the "useful" sections (Z4 discussion minus gallery?) of the forum and not places such as the lounge, etc. This would give a much better indication as to how much a forum member is "involved" in the forum.
I see a lot of member with a high number of posts, but 2/3 of them in the lounge, etc.
if you want a dry, dead forum then it can be tech-only, and probably get 10 hits a day.....but who wants that? Personally I check in almost every day to see whats happening and see how a bunch of like-minded, but at the same time very different, people are getting on with life.
And as a BUMP to the good folks who run this FREE site, I'd say the best measure of how 'involved' people are is whether they bother to make a donation towards running costs or not.... and we've agreed in the past that publicising that would be slightly tacky.
I don't think it matters that much where people contribute to get their count... we all know where the real knowledge is - and some even have very low post counts!
I suspect my posts break down as follows:
1% useful contributions (rounding up!) - I helped someone once... I did!
24% not so useful advice
24% retractions of not so useful advice post correction
18% arguing with Coupe owners (the best bit!)
6% trespassing in the M Specific section... just because I WANT! Too much for my own good!
7% saying hello to newbies
20% banter
You only have to look at the active topics to know it's not all business - one that stands out is CJ's new camera post, a load of views and responses and nothing to do with Z4s!
This is a great site and I hope that the trail blazers and engineer types get some level of enjoyment from the rest of our ramblings in return for their efforts.
(lacroupade - only until you change you avatar again!)
sorry guys, i think you've misunderstood my OP... I'm not having a go at anyone and not complaining what so ever. I also don't just come on the forum to just "learn" new things. It's nice to speak with people who are in the same frame of mind as me (i.e. they don't think i'm crazy, a geek or obsessed with my car). i just think it would be more beneficial to just include the technical sections in post count. it would also make it easier to search users posts.
sk93, i can tell you that in the couple of months you've joined you've technically contributed more than many people who've been on this forum from it's early days of whom have "many" number of posts, so i'm actually not having a pop at you... in fact quite the opposite.
appologies if it came out wrong.
P.S. PawnSacrifice, I just had to double check you did your sums right!
And Peddy, stop bigging sk93 up for gods sake! - I would remind you that he got his avatar from THIS, posted by Aeobus during one of his extended drinking sessions
& remember - the first thing i did with mine was remove the badges, but yes 2.5yrs later it got some loud pipes and some audio, so subtlety isn't the name of the day.
Good thing about meets, you're then able to then take the Michael slightly afterwards..
No question a good 3.0 is quick and subtle.. Phils is auto too, and 3.0i's have fog lights !
