10" active sub installed

I have just installed the Edge 10" active sub from halfords. £89. Very good bit of kit for under £100. It is a perfect tight fit at the rear of boot.Such an improvement. Tweeter upgrades is all it needs now.
Head unit (clarion)and active sub £188. Facia adaptor £14 ish.
I am not sure what speaker set up I have standard. Its a 07 3.0 SI. Perhaps 10 speaker.
The Edge 10" gets full marks from me. Totally transformed my sound. Can not recommend it enough.
For remote I just took it off the blue and white wire from the clarion head unit.
 
I'm sure the sound is way better, but is it removable?

I couldn't live with rendering the boot useless to fit a suitcase or similar in.
 
you can get a quick connector that just pulls apart otherwise its x3 phillips screws. Slides straight out.
I can still get a travel holdall in which is all I need for me and wife. I am used to a smart roadster and vx220 so The boot still seems huge lol.

Quick release connector seems a good idea. As I travel globally I need a large case and would need such a 'box' removing for such use.
Good to know it can be adapted if going down that route.
 
You travel globally in the e85? I couldn't stand more than a hundred miles of that suspension before I felt sick. Nice work on the sub OP, hope it sounds good. I've got something similar say in the dining room that has been there for ages as I've not got around to fitting it, can't be arsed.

Yes indeed - to airports, however I do use the Zed whenever I travel on business in the UK and generally need a larger sized case for ease of packing (read lazy)

It looks rather smart! Although I'd also have the same concerns about how much space it takes up in the boot. I take it the power line to the amp is taken directly from the battery in the boot floor?

Should be pretty easy to tell - for instance if you move the seat forward, about halfway down the back wall do you have cubby holes or a speaker grilles?
If it's cubby holes, one alternative that some owners have used is to put 6x9s in by removing the 'pockets', fitting a panel to fix the speakers onto, then fitting the grilles over the top - it's where the factory fit woofers would go if you have a 10 speaker system, keeping free the boot space. Might be an idea if you ever fancy extending your setup further!
 
would you be able to install this in a standard E85 2003 business CD player that has the cd changer as well?
 
I guess so . You would have to take the sub inputs off of the speaker wire ...maybe an adapter of some kind. Using an aftermarket head unit you can use the phono type low level inputs. Halfords do a £30 fitting service. Bit of a gamble using that maybe.

The power is straight from the battery using the kit that comes with sub ...All leads and fuses included.
I have put the remote wire and inputs from the head unit through the cubby hole so I have not got the 10 speaker option .
 
Its the 10 speaker system where things get complicated due to the built in amp which takes a digital signal from the standard headunit, aftermarket headunits cant replicate this signal. With the 6 speaker system everything runs from the headunit so you can easily upgrade the headunit and add subs/new speakers and amps.

ah i see! so its just a matter of replacing the original speakers? apparently getting to the back ones is a knightmare!

My Mrs' was feeling sick after our trip from Exmouth - Bournemouth and return - hoping thats not the reason and it was actually the wine she had at lunchtime - I am hoping to use the z4 as much as possible when the kids are not needed to be in transit with us
