had a 118d sport as a loaner- hated it at first but then as i got used to it i found myself liking it! anyone else like the 1?

I test drove an 135 coupe a few months before getting into the Z4. I thought it was a blast to drive... quick, agile and pretty sure-footed (and the start button is a fun gimmick). And I'm sure it would have proven more "livable" as a daily driver. But I didn't care for its outward appearance... it has a few awkward proportions and just can't compare with any Z (3 or 4) on sheet metal style. And BMW's other series models just seem more sophisticated somehow. If I were to pop for a larger coupe, I'd hold for the 3 or 6 series, the latter of which may be my next set of wheels.

They're as ugly as f***. However, having driven pretty much the entire range, I was stunned by the handling, which is so good that I don't know what I would do if they bring out the Z2.

Here's my 116i:

I had one as a loner once when I had my JCW S. I didn't like it myself as I found it a bit boring.

Handling was good but not a match on the MINI (and that goes for my Z4 also!).

I've been a passenger in my mate's 118d with M-Sport goodies and it's a nice place to be. Reasonably quick for what it is.

I'd actually considered a 130i before getting my Z4. At the time I was looking for a car that kept a bit of practicality as well as having the performance, and I must be one of the few folk who like it's looks LOL. I saw it as a much better option than a newer Golf GTI or other hot hatch.

I feel the same, but only about the hatch. I'd never buy the coupe or convertible 1-series, but I'd have shelled out for the hatchback as a daily driver over my new Smart.

I'm not keen on the hatch, although white one's with 3 doors look good.

The coupe is quite nice, my Dad wanted me to get one instead of the Z4, but i'm glad i didn't listen to him :D

I think it's a hideous looking thing, accept it drives well, but could never live with the look of the thing. I'd buy a 5 series if I didn't have a Z.

That's what my girlfriend has got. I wasnt too keen on the 1 series at first but i do like the 3-door in white. It does drive well apart from the gears being a bit stiff when changing from 1st to 2nd (a pain when you want to get away from the lights quickly) plus i hate it that the front seats do not go back to their original position when you let people into the back :headbang:
