1 Series Launch in the US

i don't think anyone is excited over the 135's looks. it's the amount of car/performance you get for the price. although that's debateable seeing how a fully loaded 135 is so close in price to a 335. but nonetheless, chip/intake/exhaust and you're probably looking at 300 to the wheels. coming from a turbo car myself, i sorta miss the ability to extract so much power through simple software upgrade.

I think I'm just sad about my move from Wisconsin to Scottsdale, AZ. My Z was so special in Wisconsin. I felt like I had a nice car. Now I see half dozen a day out here so I just blend in with everyone else :-( What's worse is that it seems like EVERYONE has a BMW...more 3 series than civics it seems. But I live in a very superficial "keep up wiht the Jones' " town. So with the release of a cheap 1 series bmw, every kid who works at the mall will be leasing one! Oh well...maybe it'll help our economy. We sure need it!!!

As an ex-one series owner (118d se) i'm going to argue that it was a fab car.

the handling and balance on the car were fantastic and although i only had the 1.8 deisel the performance out of the engine was more that adequate. The post facelift models were even better with the newer engines and better performace.

I guess the styling isn't to every ones taste, but i loved it. It certainly looks striking - and alot better than the competition A3/ Civic etc.

As for devaluing the marque of BMW - the 1 series is still a fairly expensive option for a family run around compared to ford and vauxhall option. And as an entry level into the BMW family it certainly worked i know a lot of ex - 1er owners who have changed their orgiginal 1er for a new 1er, or have progressed into the range - such as myself.

As for the coupe and cabro version - i'm not sure on them - they do seem to be a squashed version of the 3 series and i think that the designers should have been a bit braver....by the way there isn't much leg room in the back of either the coupe or the cabro - very much a 2+2 type car....

on a closing note viva la 1 series :driving:
