Deb has a 2014 F21 116d, and has been advised by BMW that the battery is beginning to show signs of age...and might need replacing.
The car is 5 years old, and I've read that the AGM batteries lifespan is generally 4-7 years, so that ties up.
The issue that started this was her alarm going off at night for no reason. Resetting the alarm and disabling the internal sensors stopped it, so an internal sensor was suspected.
They've diagnosed the car today and confirmed a sensor is faulty and are replacing it under the extended warranty. Unfortunately we have £250 excess, and they reckon without the warranty it would be £700?
The other weird thing that happened (only once so far) was all the parking sensors coming active (and showing the display) when driving down a dual carriageway!
I asked her if the start/stop has stopped working, but she doesn't use it anyway (just doesn't release clutch at lights etc), so thats not conclusive.
Therefore, I'm happy with the suggestion that the battery might be on its way (due to age and this weird parking sensor thing). They've quoted £200 battery, £50 registration and £50 vat). Kwik-Fit etc is £195 all in.
Do Kwik-Fit register the battery?
Does anyone know what brand BMW fit? Kiwi-Fit, ATS etc fit batteries branded "Platinum". RealOEM doesn't give brand, but says (from the part number on the quote) its a 92AH battery, whereas the Platinum is 90AH. Does that matter?
We're not doing it yet, and they did say it might not be the battery, so we're gonna keep an eye on it, but does the above cost sound right? (Could buy a Carly and code it myself...and then do some stuff on my Z4
