Looks a bit steep at £40k base price though

Really? It's £13,000 cheaper than an M3 V8 and £400 cheaper than the E46 M3 was, in base spec, nearly ten years ago. Despite that, it's got similar power (335 v 348) and is quicker. It's slightly smaller, but that seems an ok price to me. I'm eagerly awaiting a test drive, as long as it doesn't look too cutesy in the metal this car could be a real winner....

Agreed!

Looks pretty beefy from behind, not sure on the side view.

mikedav, nice pics. I think it'll look pretty good in the flesh, the flared arches look subtle but in reality there is quite a difference up close. Bit like the RS4 saloon which looked understated in the pics but looks muscular up close.

i dissed this concept when i heard about it, but i take that back, it does look soo tasty in white in those pictures ! wouldnt pay 40k for it though. stupid money.

I still think the best colour for this is that new Valencia Orange. Bright enough to not hide all the curves and bodywork details but not as bland as that white. Really sets off those wide arches.

We need to be more adventurous with car colours i think. I love my silver grey MC but i've actually regretted not getting a nice interlagos blue one for example. Or for something a little more common, how about the VW Scirocco? I think it looks fantastic in metallic green or the new Fiesta? that looks great in magenta.

It's a nice car it should have a nice colour! As for being conspicuous. Well my daily driver probably has the loudest exhausts in town. I get looks... dont care though.

I'd love to see the M division bring back Lagona Seca blue, awesome colour for a coupe. I don't think the new 1m coupe looks that good in white, it needs a carbon roof and some darker contrasting wheels like its big brother to pull off the look.

Its a nice looking car,and should be a great drive. just the price seems steep, nearly 40k for a 1 series!

It's not going to be limited run anymore so I think the chances of not being able to get one are pretty low now

I went to my dealer last week to get some warranty work done on my car... and i had an informal chat to the guy about the 1M and i mentioned i could be tempted in buying one to replace my Z.

Fast forward a week later and I got a call this morning from my dealer asking if i wanted to register for test drive as they will soon be taking delivery of one! Was a different guy i spoke to last week so he must have jotted down in some file my interest... even though it was an informal conversation!

First 1M seen on the roads in US.

Looks like the Series 1 M is now on the configurator on the UK site.

Interestingly it also looks like we may be getting ripped off in the UK (no surprise there then!!) with colour options! Alpine white, no extra cost. Sapphire Black and Valencia Orange are a £500 extra cost. All 3 colours in the USA are free of charge! :|

Just configured one at around 43k. Too much for a 1 series?

I think they'll be a great used car buy, like the Z4 M.

I'd be more wary of buying a 2nd hand/pre-owned/AUC/pre-loved one of these than a Z4M, as you just know there'll be plenty that have been remapped at some point.

I do think it's interesting this view of an expensive 1 series, I just don't think of it like that, M cars are something different - and it is only heritage that has prevented this from being called the M1, Ferrari please take note (GTO).

I just had a quick look, and the 1 is not that cheap to start with and the price range is greater on the 3 series (in pounds)...
116i £18,025 to 1M Coupe £43,000
318i £22,690 to M3 Saloon £54,075

If the reports of the 1M being an antidote to the current M3's bloatedness and harking back to the E30 M3 I think it will be a great car for the money. It will be interesting to see what image it gains with the car buying public - M car? Expensive 1 series? Poor man's M3?

So, who's booked a test drive?

I too dont really consider an M car as just another 1 series or 3 series model (except from the in my opinion disgusting X5Ms and X6Ms) but here in Cyprus 1 series start from around 18k... That's in euro! The 1 M Coupe will be closer to 80...

That said i think this looks absolutely brilliant and i would LOVE to test drive one, even though it's a turbo.
