08' E85 oil filter removal tool

Hello all
I have an 08' E85 se and I'm having an utter ball ache trying to find the correct oil filter removal tool. An 88mm is very slightly too big and I'm worried about causing damage to the plastic casing if I try to remove it. And an 86mm is too small and won't fit over the filter cover! (both are Sealey products if this is relevant to know). There are 16 flutes around my filter case and both tools I have are 16 flutes.
From what I can see most models need a 76mm tool, anyway, I'm at a loose end with this one.
Am I being stupid? Anyone out there with the answer?

Hi Toe-side. Thank you. This could very well be it! It's an 86mm which is confusing as the one I have is also 86mm and is far too small.
 
Just confirm the engine type you have they changed the oil filter arrangement between the M54 and N52 engines. :thumbsup:

You might have a M54 one?. I never used a tool on my M54 engine because it had a 36mm hex on the centre of the oil cap which allowed easy removal with a 36 socket. The made it harder on the N52 so you need the tool.

Somehow I always choose the most awkward cars to service myself :rofl: I will go ahead and order that one. Thank you very much for your help, really appreciated. And I'll get some pics up soon, after a good polish... :thumbsup:
 
Think the Volvo oil filter removal tool fits and might be cheaper but you'd have to check. Think I paid about £3.50.
 
Thank you Roundozo. I have ordered a wrench due for delivery Monday. It is supposed to be for the Volvo S40, S80 and a load of BMW engines, including mine. We will see... :roll:
 
In case it helps anyone, the 86mm 16 flutes wrench from Laser (product number 3119) is spot on. It is indeed for the Volvo S40 and S80 but fits loads of BMW oil filter caps :thumbsup:
