07 E86 Bluetooth telephone ULF -> phone + music upgrade?

Hello

Just got an E86. It has OEM phone preparation with bluetooth, which is phone only.

Is it possible to replace the bluetooth module with a more modern (e89?) OEM one which also has A2DP music streaming? It would seem to make sense if possible to use the existing microphone etc.

It would seem like a better option than a separate music BT adapter attached to the CD changer loom or replacing the headunit or something plugged into the AUX socket.

I have googled around but not come up with a specific answer to whether upgrading the (M)ULF is possible

thanks

I’d suggest going the separate bt adapter route in order to keep ur car original as possible. Possibly important when you come to sell it on?
I have a bt adapter connected to the standard ipod prep cable which uses the cd changer input and it works with my android flawlessly.

Next job is to install the 3.5mm aux cable so i can use one of these...

You need a Sony Experia tablet to complete your collection :poke:

Are they any good?
Need to ditch that clunky, useless old ipad and get meself an android tablet soonish.
Was hoping to bag a Xiaomi tablet in the black friday sale but couldn't find anything. šŸ˜•

Short answer - no, not possible.

I'm not a fan of Bluetooth streaming anyways. It's a compressed stream, can be glitchy, etc. I've settled on streaming music out of my iPhone to the aux port, and it works really well, despite the inconvenience of having to fiddle with the phone to start it. I have an Apple Watch as well and can control music from it while driving, without having to fiddle with the phone. It's really turned out to be a decent solution that doesn't require an expensive butchering of the OEM system.
