07 Coupe just a bit sluggish

As a new owner, I'm still trying to get up to speed on the details and issues with various models. Mine is a 2007 3.0si Coupe, 6 speed with about 53K miles. I've owned it for about 2 months and 2K miles. I did new tires, front pads, battery and an oil change in the first week. Now settling into driving and I've noticed a hint of sluggishness at times under light to medium throttle/load. I've had an instance of rough and bouncing idle - maybe twice, but it really hasn't been a problem. The sluggishness feels like it's just a bit fuel starved or timing retarded. No misfiring. I've read about the VANOS issues, but haven't found much posted about it with the N52 motor.

Really would appreciate any leads/ideas on this.

Edited to add that the fuel economy is steady and solid at around 29 mpg in mixed/favoring highway driving.

Also hasn't thrown a CEL.

The N52 is valvetronic...

Have a read up on the various problems and see if there is anything that sounds similar to yours..

Valvetronic motors always did seem a bit weird at less than full chat to me.

Sure you're not just getting used to the engine?

Also, silly question, but I see you are in the USA - what octane gas are you using?

I think you need to give it a bit more welly! Rev it to just before the redline and see if it still seems sluggish. I get quite a bit less than 29mpg in mine....

In addition to the uneven acceleration, it also surges just a little bit on a steady throttle. Thinking about this, it seems more like a TPS issue. I'm not even sure if it has a TPS, or if it's a problematic part.

Yes, I'm in the US (didn't even recognize this was primarily a UK board, not that it matters - in fact, you guys could be a great resource for me as I'm planning a anniversary trip to England and Scotland for fall). And I'm running 93 octane all of the time. I noticed the issue pretty early after I bought it, but thought I would give it some time to make sure.

I think it only happens in "normal" mode. It's hard to tell because the sport mode is insanely responsive to the slightest input.
