'06 M - what's this part?

Hi there - just purchased a '06 M Roadster (with only 7300 miles on it!), and it had a strange part in the trunk. It was just laying there in the back - I'm sure somebody put it there (i.e. it doesn't appear to have fallen off anything in the trunk). No idea where it came from or where it goes. Anybody have any ideas?

Here's the car:

The markings on the back are:

Some little charts - looks like date codes or something.

Any help will be appreciated!

Oh yeah - the car is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

One more question - the car was missing the tool kit in the truck (tire sealant and compressor are there, but no tools). Is there anything in that kit that I'll really miss? Is it worth trying to track one down? I think the tow hook is in there, but I'm not sure how critical that or any of the other tools really are.

Thanks!

Just a guess (I'm away from home so can't check on mine) but it looks like it might be the flap that fits over the small compartment that's on the edge of the door to the storage space between the seats.

As for the tool kit - I think it's just really a few spanners and screwdrivers. If no one else comments before I get home on Wednesday I'll check mine and list the bits

Oh - and welcome to the forum - your car looks great :D

I concur with Angus; I checked my Z and it's behind the seat between the door and rear "wall" behind the seat. Maybe they bought this one to replace a cracked one, but just never got around to replacing it?

welcome along :D

great car

my toolkit (although non-M) consists: Screwdriver, spanner, tow hook and the wheel locking key...

Figured it out!!

You guys pointed me in the right direction - it came from the "package shelf" behind the roll-bars. You can only see it with the top up (haven't had the top up much in the car yet), but there is a trim piece on each side of the flat shelf (would be a package shelf on a regular car - not enough room in the roadster to put much up there). This piece came off the passenger side of the car. It popped right back into place, but I had to rotate the shelf up from the trunk (with those two rotating knobs that raise or lower that section to give you more cargo room - by about 5 inches - why bother?) to make it easier to reach.

Anyway, thanks for the nice comments and help on the toolkits. This is such a great car! Can't wait to put more miles on it...

It's all the King's (or is it Queen's) English, right? :)

I watch Wheeler Dealers & Classic Car Club on HD Theater here all the time, so I'm used to it...

I've seen that part, attached in the centre storage space behind the seats in the middle. Next to where the phone clips in I think....

TBM, Welcome to the forum! You will definitely want to get the tow hook ASAP if nothing else.

BTW, where in USA are you?
