06 E86 Oil Filler Leak

Hello,

I've been looking into a leak I can see on the cam cover on the exhaust side of the engine.

I took the cover off and around the filler cap I can see it has leaked and also gone down into some of the cover recesses and pooled

My question is, is it as simple as changing the filler cap assembly or is there something more going on?

Attached a photo for ref.

Looks like it is the filler cap seal, probably gone hard with age and allowing leakage, if your going to change that out its probably wise to go the whole hog and change the entire cam cover gasket set which will include the plug well central gaskets, they will have gone hard by now and likely to cause leakages soon. Worth bearing in mind the cam cover retaining bolts are alloy and are one use only so they will have to be replaced if you take them out. Full gasket replacement will of course allow you to give the cover a good clean.

Another question on this, the valvetronic motor...what's the deal with removing, refiting and (possibly) re-learning?

There seems to be varying processes for this, is there a difinitive method amongst forumites?
