I have a, 05 with the carver system. I have noticed a rattling noise coming from the sub-woofer behind the seat. I took it out and played it in open air. Rattle inside the speaker, both speakers. Took off the vent cloth and cut into the dust cover to try to find the cause. No joy. The rattle is coming from the speaker's motor assembly.

In the beginning, the speaker moved alot but didn't seem to make much sound. At low volumes the rattle is audible. At high volumes, the rattle is overwhelmed by the bass the speaker produces - at high volume only it seems.

The speakers still work as "intended" I suppose. I don't think they are blown.

I looked at the speaker. It seems like the force needed to move it in and out is too great. Maybe the foam surround has degraded?

I need to either repair these speakers (maybe a new surround will repair it) or replace them. I am not willing to give up any additional space in the trunk. My ride is a roadster.

Has anyone else had these issues? Any fix?

I have looked further into the factory sub situation. It seems that there is some sort of "port", which is open to the trunk area, which is not sealed from the cab, therefore possibly allowing the woofer to act as if its not in an enclosure. Aka, not making much sound but moving alot - just like its doing...

I'm going to seal the enclosure to see if that makes a difference.

UPDATE. Sealing the factory sub enclosure did not help any. Maybe sounded even worse. I guess I'm gonna go back to stock.

Has anyone else actually found a solution to the Carver factory bass situation? Are there any speakers that work well in that location? Has anyone tried installing 6x9 subwoofers in the factory location?

...back to square one.

Just so you don't think you are talking to yourself - are 6 x 9 not too big to fit in the existing enclosures though?

I think with the size of the enclosure nothing would work very well in there at those frequency's its trying to reproduce. Its a shame they didn't just have 2 bog standard circular holes in the partition that lead through into the trunk then carver produce subs that are 'matched' to the internal volume of the trunk with optimal match when the roof is down. That would have sounded awesome! Well at least until you put your shopping in there which would then cause the drivers to become 'unloaded' due to reduced volume of air and self destruct :o I guess there is no perfect way of doing it. I have been in pro audio running 10kw to 20kw band rigs for years and there is no substitute for enclosure size when it comes to sub bass. no replacement for displacment applies here lol ... They all need to be big to do it properly. The only thing I can think of is if you found some small good quality hifi or studio reference monitors in there at 8 ohms with the tweeters unwired. i have a pair of these in my studio and i'm pretty sure if you were to retrofit them into those holes (the whole box with driver) if they would fit the sub bass quality would increase. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-NS-10M-Studio-Monitors-/110699381621?pt=UK_Consumer_Professional_RL&hash=item19c6328375#ht_500wt_1156

Lol. I have decided that there is definetly no quick fix for the factory locations. Ive got some old 6x9s somewhere. The next time I take the factory subs out I'll see if a 6x9 sub might fit.

I'm still having a rattling noise coming from the factory subs, but its not bad enough to keep the radio off. The oem setup seems to amplify the bass when the windows or top is down, which is cool. I had an eclipse convertible a long time ago and its bass disappeared with the top down.

Ive got an original infinity basslink im getting free from a friend. Worth a shot.

there is a quick fix for the subs but not the amp.. there's a link in the FAQ :)

I have 2 x 6.5" JL audio subs I'm about to slot in, as I'm not having with the Focal woofers I've got in there at the moment.

Also got a Cleansweep, an Alpine PDX4.150 4x150 RMS which fits perfectly into the location for the standard amp, so it all looks 100% stock, & sounds .. well quite good 8)
