Hi all,
Just bought a 2.5 2005 5mt with 175k. got it for pretty cheap with a few problems (dampers are fully shot), but the previous owner had the disa valve and a bunch of the engine gaskets fixed. Didn’t seem like any major problems when I bought it drive great and sounded fine (smelled terrible as it was a smoker car).
Just spent the past couple days deep cleaning the interior and I went to take it for a drive around the neighborhood and it started making a whirring noise once I get above about 10 mph. Sounds like It’s coming from the transmission tunnel but can’t really tell. Doesn’t change with engine rpm if i shift or push in the clutch, so probably something in the drivetrain. Almost sounds like straight cut gear whine. It only makes the noise when coasting, but as soon as I step on the case any it goes away. It didn’t make this noise before but this is the coldest I have driven it so maybe diff or trans fluid is cold?
Has anyone else had similar issues to this or have any ideas on what I should look at first?
