04 Cruise Control retrofit now airbag is on!

Hi, I retro fitted the cruise control stalk this afternoon to my Zed. I disconnected the negative terminal and plugged in the connector as described in the various How To guides. I reconnected the negative terminal and started the car. To my dismay, the Airbag warning light came on and stayed on. The battery was only disconnected for about 2 minutes. I dissed the battery again and unplugged the CC, reconnected, but the warning light has stayed on.I reconnected everything and test drove the car. The CC works perfectly but the Airbag light is still on. Oh dear. I am now at a loss as to what to do. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks in anticipation. Andy G

Having controlled my initial panic and read through the many posts concerning the Airbag light, it seems that a dealer/indy reset is the way forward. Can anyone recommend a place in the Burton on Trent area that could do the business for me? Thanks again.

Can this be reset by ODBC or does it need the specialist BMW tool/computer to do it?

If it can be reset with an ODBC tool then come to the Wales meet on Sunday and I'll do it for ya.

Siftah, That's a very kind offer and I appreciate it. The problems are that I don't know the procedure to perform the reset and on Sunday I will be wandering around on the railway for 12 hours which sucks the fun out of a Saturday night! :( Thanks again Siftah and I'll post the outcome.
Cheers!

No probs - hope you get it sorted.

I would basically suggest trying to find out whether it needs a specialist BMW tool to reset the code or whether it can be done with an OBDII tool. If it's the latter, then try and get hold of someone with an OBDII tool first as they're common and cheap and it's easy to do. Any garage will have one and if you've a friendly mechanic, they may even do it for free as it's 30 seconds work...

I had my airbag light come on when replacing my old battery. Get it cleared down and i'm sure it will be ok. Think it needs a specialist BMW tool though.

Took the car to an Indy today but the diagnostic machine could not communicate with the drivers side airbag. This apparently means that several "satellite" programs need to be ran to check and reset the light and the indy didn't have time to do this due to me just cold calling without a booking. The problem could be a module failure but the bloke assured me that this is very unlikely. It's still got a months warranty left on it so off to the independent dealer it goes on Monday afternoon. Scary stuff as you only need your airbags at a time of crucial importance! Anyway, I shall see what they say on Monday. I'll keep mum about the CC stalk though and hope they don't remember it didn't have one when they sold it to me. (I wonder if they read this forum???)

All fixed. The readout from the diagnostic machine said the airbag module had received low voltages. Strange as I touched nothing with the battery connected. Anyway, till next time........... :|
