03 3.0l Z4 bad Build quality!!!

It's not so much the build quality but the fact it is a 7 year old sports car that has probably had a life of being driven "well"!

I love my 03 3.0 despite just spending £400 on fixing the roof. I'm sure it rattled less 7 years ago!

I also run a 2003 (as a week-end driver since new) and haven't had a single problem mentioned in this post. (just passed 50K on the odometer)

The glove box did rattle , fixed that with a bit off blue tak, iv got a rattle from the nearside, behind the seat . im still trying to isolate it . when it annoys me , I just turn up the volume on the radio,,, :driving:

Dear all

Apart from having to replace the rear springs, Roof motor and window modulator has anyone had problems with interior fittings such as:

1) Plastic surround around the rear view mirror fall off

3) plastic trim on door handle loose and fall off

AL

On a Z4 3.0is I purchased in 2009 and traded in this past may I had the same problem as you stated in number 1 above. On the same car the plastic cover above the ash tray keept falling off. Dealers reaction .......... he said, I hate the plastic around the back view mirror on these cars! he managed to re-install it in 15 minutes ... On the plastic above the ash tray falling off .... he said, lets weld a bar across it

I decided to trade her in for a 2009 since I wanted the retractable hardtop in the first place and a better quality interior design not all that plastic.

You should not give up on BMW they made some fantastic improvements in 2009, 2010 :) Anyway that is what I think.

Bottom line, I am sure most of you agree if you drive a older Z4 if you compare the older once with a new 2009, 10 or 11 there is a big difference in quality ... BMW is still for me the best and sexiest 2 seater around. Bet if we set up a pole Z4, SLK, Porsche .... the Z4 comes out on top.

i have an 03 3.0i with 55K and i have not had any of these issues. (touch wood)

in fact the only issue i have had is the alarm occasionally making some noise without a reason. :? but im looking into that
no spring or rattle issues tho - but rattles really irritate me so if i hear one ill pull the dash apart until i find it!!
sounds like the previous owner of the car might have thrashed it a bit too much...

Apart from the glove box handle falling off, which I fixed in minutes. The only other issue I've had is the rain sensor stopped working, and that I fixed myself quite easily.

32k miles and coming up to 2.5 years of ownership.

interior rattles are caused by the hard suspension + 1st generation Runflats, and driving on a lot of lousy roads.
The combination is just too much to prevent any rattles as the car ages.
