03 3.0i not starting

well, its getting towed tomorrow :(

so much fun...my $50 dollars from the insurance company will probably cover the drivers ability to help push it out of the garage and the time it will take him to maneuver the truck down the drive way.

id ont know, I'm to afraid to lay a plug out on the engine and crank it. I think if I was getting spark, the engine would do more than it is and ther wouldn't be so much unburnt fuel in the cylinders.

is there something I can do with a multimeter on the coil, the coil wiring, etc that can at least let me know if power/whatever is getting that far? I can test stuff easily if someone can tell me what to test and what not. Again I am not familiar with this engine/car at all and without a repair manual, I'm not going ot poke around unless someone can explain what to do.

Sorry bigbacon lost the thread. Did you find out what the problem was with the Z??? Are you back on the road?

they said it started right up and acted like it had a lot of fuel dumped into the cylinders...well no s**t, I told them that. Whats weird is I couldn't get the damn thing to start after pulling the plugs, drying them off, letting everything sit for like 8 hours, cranking it with the pedal to floor and all that jazz..

The transmission issue they think is the clutch dragging like a spring or something on the disc came loose or whatever but it doesn't seem like an internal transmission issue. That kinda sucks because they won't know unless they pull the trans and that is like 500 bucks right there to do it. Getting it into gears is problematic as it is like if I don't have it at just the right RPMS I sort of have to force it into the gear. Normally at high RPMS it isn't that bad but lower, say 3500 or less it gets tricky and some gears, like going from 2 to 3 its like I am completely blocked from going into it unless it bring it back into neutral and then into 3 again.

maybe since it starts, I'll take somewhere else and have them look at it and see what they say.

Get a second opinion. Could be part of the clutch plate departed

Good to hear that the engine has come back into line! I thought it might of filled up with fuel has happened a few times with the Z after a short run and too many times with the boat!!
Have a practice with the plugs seeing the spark when there no pressure!!
Good to hear your your rolling!

i think that is the plan next week to get it into an actual BMW dealer and see what they say about the transmission. Least they'll give me a loaner car.

and I assume doing something like a fluid change in the transmission and/or brake/clutch isn't going to help?

May-be you never know.......Don't you have any independants that can help at a more suitable rate?

there could be but I am not really in the mood to research that.

The dealer I would go to I at least know, we take my wife's mini there. Unless it was covered under my extended warranty, I wouldn't pay to have them tear it apart and figure it out. I'll probably just end up selling it.

No............I am sure after a bit of TLC from the 'stealer' you will not have any further prob's with the Z. :)

Dollars? at a Main dealer ........Probably...........an independent 60-70% less. Cars are just great sometimes

going to end up selling it saturday.

I will probably pick up another one in a few years. I do like the car, I just don't use it anymore and I can use the 10k the dealer will give me for it.

hopefully by then I can get a hard top or even an M at a reasonable price.

That's sad but totally understandable, 10k in the bank sounds good.
Did they ever diagnose the fault of not starting at the garage??.......
