Munich Legends? Good luck - seems to be hit and miss.

Really, I've not done a huge amount of research as I don't require them just yet but I've heard good things.

Any decent suggestions for Indy's in the south east?

Tyr Andy Walker at Walkers Autotech in billingshurst. Very good service and they have 3 BMW master techs working there. Phone number is 01403 751646

Perhaps Stuart could setup another one of his magic maps that show the location and details of all Forum recommended indies?

My rule of thumb. Don't get bent over by main dealers when in my experience a fantastic job can be done simply by finding yourself a reputable specialist BMW indy. After owning 5 x BMW's and selling on 4 of them, the difference it makes upon resale is non existent and at the most marginal; unless the person that want to buy from you thinks otherwise (rare). Most people are only interested that it's been serviced correctly and by people that know what they're doing.

By the way, SE indy recommendation. ETA Motorsport (http://www.etamotorsport.co.uk)

Cheers guys, two to consider.

I still don't think that a real enthusiast would be put off a car by an Indy service. For me it's nothing to do with cost but the quality of the work. I'm sure there are decent dealers out there, but I still think that a good Indy will provide a better service.

If you have had cars for a time, you soon learn that a main dealer stamp does not mean a thing about quality of work done.

Look at the person you are buying it off and the records they keep.

Absolutely spot on.

Easily done. If there's enough interest I could set one up.

I've heard somewhat mixed opinions of Birds in Iver. I use CPC Performamce Engineering in Amersham. Phil is a decent bloke and extremely knowledgable.

Just got mine done at Batemans for an oil, brake fluid and MOT cost £323

I would get it done at a BMW garage for your service history not an indy, especially when the cost shouldn't be miles apart. Potential buyers dont like non BMW service history on an M. When it gets to a high milage fair enough but its not so go BMW

Also to add try and get it done at an BMW ///M dealer, bot all are M specialists. My experience between my local Lloyds who isnt and Batemans who is like night and day. They did a mini inspection of the car and gave it to me as reference and is good to put in history for potential buyers. They also printed off the full history of the car to check it off to make sure it was all done correctly. Was a fantastic service and talked me all through it, best BMW experience ive had anyway.

Car feels incredible, feels like its gained some horses from somewhere.

I would agree with this.

However, and I'm sure many can attest to this, a decent indy will give your car a far better service than it would receive from a main dealer.

For example, my car has covered 26k miles, I will be taking it to Munich Legends in Sussex.

I think now that the cars are 5-7 years old potential buyers will start to become more enthusiasts who understand that a full BMWSH may not be all it's cracked up to be.

Agree totally , the Indy very near me - 5 miles away , Autotechnics Lutterworth Leics has a good following , so I go there and they are very pleased to have a z4mc in their presence , the only one of course !

Hopefully the only MC and they look after other S54 engined cars?

We are lacking ///M specialists down here on the south coast. Chandlers did my last oil change. In the end I got it to within £50 of ETA. Deducting fuel probably about £35 difference, then a day of my time, so in this instance dealer 1/2 mile down the road and no time taken was the best bet.

For insp 1 & 2 though I will be looking at either ETA or Bartley in Southampton.

Barley's costs

Oil £175
Inspection I £420
Inspection 2£555
Annual Check (Brake Fluid & Coolant)£110
