Just 1/2 defoamed me sound generator

Just took the long bit out! It sounds really growly (Nascar?) but driving everywhere in 2nd and 3rd gear at 4k+ revs for full 'surroundsound' experience is gonna get expensive!!! The sound reminds me a bit of my early cars with those funny little pancakes airfilters fitted :driving:

Mmmmm not sure I'm gonna stay a fan of this, it just don't sound as refined as the engine exhaust note......

Try cutting it in half and sticking one bit back in. Did this with mine and I get limited aural pleasure from about 2,000-3,500 revs, then over that it is fine when not battering it. If you do batter it then by the red line the noise is awesome

Bing, I love it!, some poor German sound technologist spent months working out the optimal length of foam for maximum aural pleasure and you've improved it by cutting it in half! - true British garden shed engineering! :)

I have had the bulkhead bit out, then stuck that back in and took the engine-side bit out, then stuck that back in and cut the bulkhead bit in half. I did take both out somewhere in amongst that, but my ears bled so I backed off that idea. The Germans need to get out driving more :D

can anyone show me a picture of where this is so i can do it. it may cost me in petrol from the satifying noise but save me buying an exhaust or backbox

just search up 'sound generator' and follow the posts - either modifying or fitting one if you don't have a 3.0i

Got both my pieces out. Sounds brutal but still quiet when you avoid hard acceleration. Which is never as I can't resist
Sticking it in 4th going slowly has such a nice burble. Almost v8 like

How would you say it sounds no with 1/2 of the bulkhead foam removed?

Ive only had the car a few days but after all the fuss on here decided I'd try it without the bulkhead foam. For the first hour I couldn't stop grinning, sounded almost as epic as the dad's R8 but got to admit it grew a bit tiresome after a while. I love the noise at high revs but found it a bit much when accelerating at lower speeds in 4th/5th Gear.

Was thinking half of the foam removed might be the best compromise for me!

My ears started to bleed with both bits out.

Ended up with just the firewall section out and its prefect.

Only on a 3.0 unless its been retro-fitted.

+1 thats what I ended up doing, I found with both out, the passenger started fitting, then the ears started bleeding. I was fine, but always ended up driving on my own :D

Keep the full bit of foam by the firewall out! If you're driving less than full throttle it's not that noticeable.

Be More Dog! :D

At least this option produces real noise.

I see the new Renault Clio has a device to allow you to make the car sound like another one via the control panel!...mind you didn't the BMW M5 have something similar?

What next, a Fiesta with an Lamborghini Aventador sound-a-like option?
