What's the best roof cleaner?

I've noticed mine has started to go green :( not sure what the best product to use would be? I don't fancy buying loads to find each ones pants!

Would be great to know how yours went and also if you had to fight the greenness

Cheers :)

I would do a search of forum as there is plenty of info already aired and it will save starting WW3

i've used autoglym fabric hood cleaner and it works well.

also used turtle wax stuff but it was pretty pants.

renovo is supposed to be decent. i've only used the reviver, rather than the cleaner.

IIRC Renovo is recommended by the Roof manufacturer for protection after the cleaning process and IIRC again the BMW product is produced for them by Renovo

Correction it is Raggtop but Renovo has a good reputation

I used Autoglym kit (about £20) which comes with cleaner and protector spray.

Now I only cleaned it once using the cleaner spray, and took ages to wash all the foam away (using hosepipe with spray gun). Used about 1/4 of the bottle i'd say.

Then I used the protector (which annoyingly used the whole bottle to spray the entire roof). The protectant works really well and rain beads off lovely now.

However i'm now left with a 3/4 full bottle of cleaner, but i'll have to buy another kit if I want to protect it again. And i'm not 100% happy with the cleanliness.

Now this was my first time cleaning a fabric roof as im a soft top virgin.

Next time I do it, I plan to do 2 or 3 clean cycles with the cleaner bottle (to get it looking cleaner and blacker) before I apply the bottle of protectant after. Think I was perhaps a little impatient last time and wanted to get it done so I could drive it as i'd only had the car a week or so.

Oh, and before I purchased the kit i did some reading up on here, and as Ben G says above, others also said the Tutle Wax Protectant was pretty poor and Autoglym was much better.

Hope this helps

Dan

Cheers for the write up, that was really helpful!
I'm going to nip to a car place a few miles away from mine tomorrow to see what they have, I was going to do it tomorrow aswel but I don't think I'll have enough time to do a proper job.
I'll see howmuch the autoglym kit is compared to the other ranges, I use to use autoglym products but much prefer meguires now

Thanks again!

the annoying thing i find about fabric roofs are the fold marks which are impossible to remove, so even if the roof is clean and free of mould/dirt, it'll always look dirty due to the marks.

this is where renovo reviver comes in, although eventually the fold marks come back :headbang:

To waterproof or not to waterproof that is the question............ :D

Stands back to watch the outbreak of WW3.

I've used Renovo on MX5s and my S2000, and will be using it for the first time on my Z this weekend, fingers crossed weather wise

Oh come on guys stop messing about just give a good thick coating of waterproof paint ,,Only has to be done once

The fold marks don't really bother me, it's just the fact that at the side of the doors it's going green :(

For waterproofing silicone spray has to be worth considering and if your roof is going green then a biological washing powder will destroy the algae.

edit-- if you do try the biological please let me know if it works, the theory seems sound although it is listed by the manufacturers as something YOU MUST NOT DO! :!:

Right I am off to have a look at the other thread...

the autoglym stuff will sort that right out.

you get a sponge with it that begins white and ends up green
