Hello guys,

Been out to my newly acquired z4 2004 54' business CD, to discover that i cannot select AUX on the radio, i do not have the wiring yet (which will be my next question) but i was under the impression that the option should still be avaliable as standard? to even quote one section from the ICE BMW book that came with the car, 'you can retrofit an AUX socket on your car radio, You can connect up a further device e.g. an MP3 player, via this socket' any ideas?

Secondly i just want to put in an AUX input, nice and simple to put either into the glovebox or the center console/transmission tunnel area, what are peoples recommendation's?

i found a very flush and nice looking install but cannot find a place to purchase it in the uk. infact finding parts and part numbers for the Z4 is a tough job, hardest of any car ive owned so far!
Part number doesnt seem to work when i search with uk websites 82110142174

seems to be common over in the states

I do not have a CD changer or sat nav if this helps 8)

I did a search by the way previous to posting this :)

MIne doesn't have it either... I just thought the plug at the back will still be there, and it will show up as an option when/if something is plugged in...

Right, once the wiring is connected the AUX option should become available. The wiring has a high value resistor shorting the outputs, allowing the head unit to sense the wiring is connected. It's actually a rather nice touch to not offer an option that will not work, too bad they did not put as much thought into other features.

I drilled a small hole in the access panel for the heater matrix. Neat, and you can't see it unless the wire is plugged in.

As per above post - you wont see AUX until the wires are installed. Good fitment guide on here in the "How to" section

Okay thanks guys,

So is there a cable available that plugs into the rear of the head unit then? In the cd changer slot maybe to be my aux in?
It's an iPod so however I get it connected to the stereo I want to control the music from the iPod itself I have far too many songs to muck about with the cars song navigation

Cable connects into to stereo, if you like abit of diy you can make your own for around £5.

Only found my AUX port last night on the underside of the dashboard above the centre console heated seat controls, I've had the car over a month

Yes, BMW produces one, there are aftermarket versions as well, or you can build your own. The AUX cable connects into the 'C' connector of the head unit, the CD changer uses the 'B' connector. Nav units use the 'C' connector as well, but use different pins, so the two can still coexist.

The AUX cable basically makes the car's audio a powered speaker system for your iPod, you must use the iPod itself to control song selection. To enable selection via the head unit, for anyone curious, adapters are available that take over the CD changer wiring.

Thank you!

Any links to them? for the uk, all i find are countless american and german units, i hear a mini cooper cable is meant to work also and has a fascia mounting plate but again non uk part codes :x

I'd be interested in this information too. I am struggling to source something appropriate.

That said, and apologies James for a minor thread hijack. My recently acquired 08 Z4MR doesn't have the aux port on the fascia and from what I've read the later models should have an aux port already?! Where is mine!? It's definitely not just above the heated seat controls.

me too, I heard you could fit the aux input kit for the mini so rang a mini dealer and was quoted £50 + Vat! seemed a lot for a length of cable and a resistor..

I did the exact same thing, its a very easy fitment and the AUX will show as soon as the lead is connected.
