First to second

Last week in the cold weather selecting second gear became very hit and miss, it got a bit better when everything warmed up , but still not right. When the clutch pedal was pushed down to the stop it made an odd knock knock knock noise. Had read on here about the CDV and changing gear box oil that might help so I booked it in.
The garage heard the odd noise and dropped the gear box to investigate, turned out to be a combination of things, the dual mass flywheel had excessive movement and the release bearing also had play and was dry. When you are down to this level it's always best to pop in a new clutch aswell they went ahead.
Collected it yesterday and now transformed, the CDV removal has changed the whole driving experience, the gear change as it should be. Had a quick blast about this morning (with the top down) and its a completely different car.
Used the German Auto Care independent in Wakefield, excellent service and labour at only £45 an hour, the whole bill just short of £1k !!

Did oil and cdv 2 months ago and was equally impressed.

Highly recommended to those considering, and only £30 for oil to do it yourself

I have this same slight de doink noise as you hit second but Ive never had any issue getting it into gear. Its not overwhelming and not really annoying and if I change gear more smoothly you can hear it. Ive heard and seen other posts who have same noise and say its down to your driving?

Should I change gear box oil? And remove CDV?

Couldn't stress enough how much better the car is without the CDV...

Stuart - I know that's the BMW party line, but think any damage on the DMF is offset against reduced wear on the clutch plate. six and half a dozen

I don't know the BMW party line. No criticism, there's more than enough evidence to support what people are saying about removing it but I got used to #69's clutch and have pretty much sorted it with IMmie.

imo the cdv doesnt do much to protect the drive train because when do we ever sidestep the clutch as people say it is there for and two if youare excelerating hard high up in the rev range and quick shift you can on occasion still get a big diff flange clunk from the rear , exactly the same with cdv in or deleted, as other posters have stated, i agree that the difference in driveability with it deleted outways by far the so called benefits of having it in. i still think cdv leaver inners are unaware of the difference in feel they could experience, think of a dry ski slope, it is fine if you have never experienced real snow but once you have , theres no going back !

I get the same noise 1st to 2nd occasionally it seems better when the engine is really warm . It's a case of when I drive our Golf it's good not to expect a noise. :!: d
