Rainex vs potato?

So I went to get my car washed today ( :o ) with my dad as we do sometimes, father-daughter bonding type thing...and I mentioned wanting to buy Rainex for my rear windscreen as a few of you have mentioned it. Then he started talking about cutting a potato in half and rubbing it over my windscreen to do the same job for less cash..what is he on about??

He'll mean the starch in the potato but I can't see how that would work. He might be pulling your leg

Rainex works a treat.

Lord knows, probably something to do with the starch and its preventing beading etc...

I have rainX but haven't applied it yet, waiting for summer so I can polish some scratches out with cerium oxide and my DA and then I'll apply it.

Have heard about that before. It's the starch that makes the water bead.rain x works great.

Ive used rainx for years on the front screen & side windows , problem is for it to work the speed of the car / oncoming wind is what blows the rain off  have tried it on the coupe rear window but its no different to any other glass cleaner or polish :|
Don't expect miracles Ruby  in fact . why not try doing half the window & see what you think ?

Rain-X is useless when it comes to grimy road-film/spray as the water is blown off but the muck stays. So you end up using your washers/wipers anyway.

Below 40mph it doesn't work very well, but 100mph plus at night in torrential rain and you can leave your wipers off

I'm very curious and may have to try the potato thing tonight

We don't want to see a post in the morning that you are in A&E with a potato stuck in your eyes :poke:

Will it not just turn into mash?!

Bodger and Badger might be along if your not careful...

I'll wear the lab glasses my dad got me when he also supplied me with squirty de-icer instead of the spray one after I told him what happened that time. Rest assured pvr.

A quick google found this http://www.wikihow.com/Keep-Car-Windows-Fog-Free-Using-a-Potato
But wouldnt the condensation form on the inside and not the outside of the glass?
...and would chips work?
