Incredible. Some of these posts are crazy....have any of you guys realised that there has been a new Mark II TT out since Sept 06....has wiped the decks with most of its competitors in comparisons.....I changed from the Z43.0 to the 3.2V6 S-tronic Quattro TT with Magnetic Dampers last year....haven't looked back....except at the cars in my mirror.

OK only kidding with you, yep the Mk2 is a decent car with MR, and S-tronic is great too, but performance wise the 3.2 is the same as the 3.0 Si, and the Z4M is a different league. And don't forget the TT's Haldex quattro is predominantly FWD and therefore dynamically not as "pure" as the Z4. There are also too many 2.0T FWD TTs about for it to be taken too seriously.

Too many MKII TT's!!!....get out of here, the MKII TT is still pretty rare, I'm tripping over Z4's and Boxsters though, everywhere. The Z4 is an awesome car, but far more ubiquitous than the MKII TT.
When the Z3 came out at first, it received rave reviews, until the MKI TT arrived in 1999 and killed it. Then, I admit, the Z4 came along and made the MKI TT look rubbish (but the MKI TT had been around for 4-5 years by that stage and every car has its day, even an iconic car and I could post pictures of a Z3 here that would make the MKI TT look like a Lambo Gallardo).
Then in 2006 the MKII TT raised the bar considerably again - aluminium/steel hydrid, magnetic ride, best BHP/wt ratio in the class and up-dated more aggressive looks. That's why I changed and I honestly haven't looked back....that's why BMW will be bringing out the new Z4 possibly in 2010, and I bet you the first thing they do is test it on the Nurburgring against a new MKII TT...to keep the game going, they keep out doing each other every 2-3 years.
P.S By the way, SLK 350....Very nice motor.

P.P.S You mentioned the Z4M....its 10K more than the V6 MKIITT so not comparable. The V6MKII TT competes with the 3.0Z4 only, both the same price. Audi is bringing out an RS-TT in 2009....possibly 350hp.....that will be the Z4M'sc ompetitor. And the new TT-S available in Aug 08 will be interesting...272hp, 0-60 5.2sec....but, I wouldn't want it....2.0 4 pot turbo charged to within an inch of its life, I prefer linear V6 power, still the TT-S will be very interesting.

Don't doubt you, but it's down to different countries - the UK is the biggest market for the TT.

Yep agree with that too. What I would say is that the TT, Z4 and SLK are all fine cars, with very little to choose between them at all. Maybe the closest dealer, best dealer relationship, best price, etc.

Yep agreed for new, although here in UK you can buy a 6 month old Z4M for less than a 3.2 TT roadster

Yep I posted about it here and I do like the TTS but I agree with you, the 4 banger engine is a bit off-putting for me too, but I'd need to drive it for sure to know.

I don't think Audi will bring the TTRS - I think with such a limited market they'll concentrate on a TDI 170 or 200 version instead, but I suppose we'll see.

I've always liked the TT, both generations, though I've never cared for the roadster version as it chops into the lines. Before I fell under the spell of the M Coupe, I was considering a TT coupe to complement my Z4 roadster.

I've never been a fan of the TT coupe or convertible. In any event, TT in the Philippine language (tagalog) is slang for penis. What's even funnier, I saw a TT with vanity plates "10 IN TT"...hahaha!

The convertible still isn't working for me. The TT shape is all about flowing lines, and cutting off the roof breaks the flow, imo. It may be because the lines of the Z4 roadster flow back and down, away from the roof, that the lines look better to my eye. That's likely because it was designed as a roadster first.

Never been a great fan of the MK1 TT, the Mk2 is much improved visually but still rather expensive for what you get.

It was always too heavy in quattro guise and the the styling was sharp at the time but looks a bit dated now, not fond of the driving position either.

Still was always fun to annihilate them in the 200sx :evil: :driving:

Just before purchasing my current Z4 coupe I test drove a Mk 2 3.2TT. Although I found it a very quick, competent car, it felt....boring. No feeling of a sports car compared to the Zed, or even the SLK 350 I was driving at the time. You seem to sit on it, not in it. No "seat of the pants" driving experience :driving: , which is what I was looking for when buying a sports car. It didn't even feel as quick as the Z4 or the SLK. Actually I think the Audi A5 (also test drove) was just as quick, and more comfortable.

I totally agree with you. The audi (especially quattro) just doesnt do it for me. Feels very boring to drive. The newest version is quite good looking but for a brand new car I still dont think it compares in driving pleasure to the z4 and is more of a poser car imho

Audi's are excellent road cruisers but they are not lightweight cars and that is difficult to overcome when it comes to handling. I had 3 Audis - 2000 A4 2.8, 2001 S4 2.7t, and a 2004 S4 4.2. All were nice road cars and all suffered from too much understeer once you started approaching the limits out on a track. My old 2004 S4 Avant was the closest to being tossable out on the track, but at a shade north of 4000lbs the laws of physics dictate that you will suck in the turns.

The TTs are lots better than the Audi sedans out on the track in wet conditions. I instructed for the Audi Club for a number of years and have spent gobs of time in all flavors of Audis out on the track and once the track gets good and wet the TTs have lots more grip than the rest of them.

Top Gear did an episode comparing a Z4 to the new TT and while they were close for lots of their tests the TT did a faceplant when they were playing around with trying to bring the rear end around. The typical Audi understeer made it almost impossible to do the test.

In general, I never cared for Audi styling. I agree that the TT looks better as a coupe than a roadster but still it's just not my cup of tea ...

That said, it seems like in my neck of the woods, Audis are more popular with genuine enthusiasts than Bimmers.

If you live in an area with lots of winter ice and snow Quattro and a set of winter rated traction tires makes a lot of sense. One of the better solutions for getting up to the ski resorts around.

Not exactly a point of concern for folks living in places like Florida

Used to have a TT, 225Bhp Coupe. I thought about buying another before the Z4, however memories of visiting the dealership every month put me right off.....seriously the reliability issues make it not worth owning the car. In the 6 months i had mine the following items needed to be replaced:-

MAF Sensor
Battery
Alarm Sounder
Turbo !
And when i sold it the dashpod was on its way out - 700 quid replacement.

Mine wasnt the only one either, i got a lift back home from a technician from a dealership who said that 85% of the cars that come in for repair are Audi TT's. Also my mate has just had a repair bill for £1500 from the Audi dealership for similar problems to those above.

And above all that, you have to put up with the Audi dealerships !.....not good im afraid. :headbang:

Yep im glad i bought a Z4, i was very close to buying a TT but there were a lot of maintenance horror stories on there forum.
Its a great car though, i test drove one and liked it, but doing the 'walk away and look back test' didnt give me much to get excited about :|
