I must have spent at least half an hour on two separate occasions today (pretty much all I could take each time :/) and still no dice. In fact, I think I might have pushed the right hand retaining clip and and bent it somehow. Any suggestions (apart from sledgehammer)![]()
You shouldn't need to use any real force!
Shining a torch up so you can see what you're doing will definitely help - as will using a couple of screw drivers so you can do both sides at once. It's awkward at first but once you've got the knack the vents should come out quite easily...

If anyone's interested, I'll keep you informed how that goes![]()

srhutch said:excellent writeup, wouldnt it be worth buying some flying leads with the proper connectors on from BMW and the plug just to make it a bit more rugged and ensure he leads dont fall out. From memory the leads are £0.80 each and the plug also pennies.
sk93 said:getting there with the iPhone connector.
It works for mine, but I had to butcher several devices to get it to work.
Once I find a decent source we'll be away![]()

DealExtreme.com are a good source for knock-off iPhone/iPod dock connectors, well worth a try![]()
jaxZ4 said:Hi - a quick thread resurrection to say a huge thanks to everyone especially SK93 and siftah - bought myself the aux cable from in-car tunes and the caps and resistors from Maplin - soldered them all up tonight and amazingly it works !!! not that I doubted the advice - just my very rusty and not very good in the first place soldering skills - I'm well chuffed - thanks again guys.
The apple connection works well - a little low in volume but not much - the headphone socket on one ipod ( a nano) was almost inaudible but in another (newish classic) was better but still way quiter than the apple connection - so I'm pleased - still fancy an intravee but this is way cheaper ! just need to mount the socket (in the glove box I think )and lead an extension to my Leather Z armrest of lockable cubby hole. It doesn't charge the ipod though....![]()
mnk said:Hi Everyone,
This is my first post, excited to learn and share experiences of my 2003 Z4 2.5i Auto.
I have read this thread and done everything as suggested, however the input volume is very low compared to radio and CD. Please note I have my ipod/mp3/mobile set to highest volume.
Has anyone else had this problem.
