Best prices for Edge 5W30 oil?

I have managed to get a quote of £73 for 8L of Castrol Edge 5W30 delivered (the right one for the Z4)...

Has anyone managed to find it cheaper than that? Opie Oils seem good but I don't have an account to find out the actual costs and delivery etc.

Is that a good price at £73 for 8L?

PS, got my car booked in at BMW for the service, they are picking up and dropping off the car from work as it's convenient for me. Just a 4 mile drive through town while I'm at work... has anyone found any pro/cons to this service? Seems really handy as they don't charge for it.

Many thanks

Dave

Just had mine done at coopers in tunbrigde, collected and dropped off. Was going to by some oil but couldn't be bothered in the end. Really good service and would do it again, saves having to pop out collect hire car etc. Had an inspection 1 and a brake fluid change for £425.00. My local dealer Coopers in bansted offered the same service but I was not going to let them put 70 mile round trip on my car

I did phone up and ask which oil I should buy and was told Castol edge 0W30 or Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30,

Re Opie, their prices are excellent, especially when they have extra discount deals....you just need to be a member of a car forum that is registered with them (this one isn't).

So my Tip of The Day is, go here and join - its free: http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/ - they are registered with Opie.

Then email Opie and explain (like I did) that they don't issue a membership number - they in turn will respond really quickly and say "thats OK just quote your username when you register with us".

Job done.

Good info, thanks for that

Opie normally (or rather often) has the double discount offers, so you get 25% off. For the effort required it is well worth getting your own oil before a service especially as it saves about £75 or so.

Oooer, lots of options :D

I just remembered my brother has a trade account with Opie so might get a quote through that!

Will let you know the numbers!

Thanks

Dave

Opie are doing a another special offer giving you an extra 10% off.

These work out at less that £14 FOR 5 litres !!!!

But I guess you get what you pay for...I mean what the hell is Dexos??????

I'll stick with the manufactutrers recommendation thanks.

UPDATE: in fact on further research on a Corvette forum in the US it seems that potentially its a synthetic blend as opposed to fully synthetic....not sure what that means exactly but frankly I'm not prepared to take chances with such a vital component. IMHO its just GM screwing their parts costs down...a few cents saved on every new car oil fill adds up to a lot of money.

thats a special price for trade club owners , you buy 3 get 1 free, just thought i would mention it the retail is a lot more thats a special price for trade peeps, they doe a semi synthetic which we used in the previous garage i worked in ...
the oil ticks all the boxes is BMW certified vw PDI engine certified etc... i some how dont see the point that beacuse its made for GM that its not good enough to go in BMW

Just had my Z4 serviced by a local garage, he charged £44 for genuine BMW LL04 oil. He buys it in trade and just puts a 10% mark up on it so well pleased with that

I'm sure its 'good enough', its just that it doesn't appear to be a fully synthetic and its not an acknowledged market leader......I wouldn't put it in my engine any more than I'd stick Halfords own brand in...that too is oil, but no thanks. :)

Need to get to Costco for this! Got a number just need to go in and get my ID card and stuff set up!

Just had a quote for INSP1, £255, but £82 is the oil, so in theory my INSP1 will be about £210 which is nice :D

KDS alignment is £120 though... eek. Should be good once done though :)
